Building a Home Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Freestanding air jet tub for under 3500?

We told our builder that we wanted to have a free-standing air-jetted tub, and he budgeted 3500. However, at the local plumbing fixture place that he uses / gets a discount, they START at 6K. I see a bunch of random ones online, but I have no idea about the manufacturers, quality, etc. Is there a particular brand/model we should look at, or do we need to rethink this to stay on budget? TIA!

My impression is that the cost of these has increased dramatically over the past year which may be the disconnect here. We bought a tub for our master bathroom remodel (not jetted) which was $1,500 about 8 months ago. It is currently selling for $3,000. This is part of the supply chain disruptions you have been hearing about. So I'm thinking you will have to give up the jets to get back to the originally quoted price. Do you really need them? Some people love taking baths, some people don't. We removed a jetted tub when we did our remodel because we didn't care about it. For us it is a piece of sculpture. :-)

If you want to hedge your bets, have the builder install an outlet appropriately placed so that if you replace it with a jetted tub later you will have the electric in place. We left the outlet for ours so that if the next person comes along and wants a jetted tub they will be able to install it easily.

Look up Oceania Legende it is part of their elegance series. I know someone who has this and it is an awesome product as this air system does NOT allow any water to remain inside once it drains (yuk) like some of the others do AND stays about twenty percent hotter. It is also very quiet. I have researched this as I had to order mine a week ago. It is a beautiful tub!

We are not in full remodel mode but my jetted tub is partially dismantled. I took a pic of what it looks in the front. Since there are jets on the opposite side, I’m guess there’s piping on the back as well. When all done the tub will be covered with a tile or stone front. I can’t say is impossible, just saying can’t imagine hiding it with a stand alone.

I think it depends on how you live and if you're planning for resale. I am a bath person and chose an insert so that I could have an air jetted tub, have room for candles, bath salts, etc. and for ease of cleaning around it. I was told that it can sometimes be difficult to clean around free standing tubs, especially in a smaller space. Also, we wanted a larger one as my husband enjoys it after a long day of cycling. The tub insert may not be the rage right now but it functions best for us.
