What to now do about sloppy laminate seams on edges
We had new countertop installed by contractor as part of home insurance claim . We opted for the rounded edges.” so they ended up giving us the rounded edges but with ugly rough uneven & protruding laminate seams accross all the edges (on top) And a corner of edging is actually sharp. We can’t clean / wipe countertop without rag snagging or getting caught on some of it. Its rediculous. So, should we ask them to re-do & maybe out another layer of laminate over the other, & without edge seams. ( so to have it wrap around rather .) Or what else to do ? We could try seamfil but think it would still be messy.
the pictures are not much to go by & hard to see how rough it feels. There is also glue-like substance all over as well
that we can definatrly feel with our hands

Comments (2)We had our carrara marble tops installed two weeks ago. There are four seams, all in all. Plus a chip on the side that needed to be epoxied. They can mix up the color to be almost anything. I was not satisfied with the color of the epoxy on the chip (too dark) and had them dig it out and remix a much paler gray. In short: they seam will have to be there, but they can do a better job color matching the epoxy. Comments (34)Evoking, you remind me of an acquaintance who prefers all things "alternative" and outside of the norm. You reject things that are "typical" and how they're "supposed to be". The thing that I find interesting about that approach is, that since he rejects everything that is popular or well-revered - then he's closing himself off to things simply because they are the "norm". Which is no better than "typical people" who reject things that are outside of the norm. I find the rejection of both the "norm" and the "alternative" to be equally close-minded. Please consider that - just some food for thought. My point is, don't close yourself off to something just because you think it's common. And don't assume because some people don't like your tile treatment, that it's because it's unusual. Even if you are partially joking/teasing, to me it comes off as a bit hurtful. I would argue that the people on this forum are more visionary and open then the average people, because we're on this darn forum everyday researching and educating ourselves on design and renovations. I think some of us misinterpreted your original post as seeking guidance. You obviously are tickled pink about the tiles. That's all that matters. Enjoy them! Comments (12)gale 1965: You don't have to shave the counter. Just raise the feet of the range to clear the bump. The range flange will stick up the height of the bump, look funny, and catch crud, but at least you can use the range until you get new countertops. If you want to shave the bump, buy a $99.00 router with a 1/4" collet and insert a double flute flush cut bit. Measure the distance between the outside edge of the bit and the router base. Using this dimension and the width you want to shave, calculate where to hot melt or clamp a straight edge to your countertop. Adjust the depth of the router, remembering you can always go deeper, push the router base against the straight edge and cut. It will be perfect....See More

2 years agoThere shouldn't be any seam on the round edge. The other seam should be straight, even and smooth. smooth. I had a rounded edge in my last house put in in the 90s and that didn't have any seams. So the technology has been around for awhile. I agree with darbuke, it was done by someone who knows very little on how to fabricate laminate. A hack. Although the edge is different on mine it does have rounded elements. Make them get you a new countertop and fabricator.
