olychick, thank you for taking a look. :) I'm relieved to hear you think a white shower pan is best. I am heading out now to find porcelain marble look tiles for the shower walls to pick up the gray as you suggested. I want a shiny finish to the walls. Tell me if you think that's a misstep. I am avoiding marble as I have a marble topped vanity now that is pock marked with etchings. As far as seeing myself in the vanity, yes, I think I will be able to do so. I was planning on a black framed mirror spanning the vanity. My current vanity is 32 1/4" high (as will be the new vanity) and when seated on my vanity stool my reflection is seen up to my chest. The only issue currently is that my knees are pressed against drawers. I failed to mention that I was thinking of using absolute black granite for the vanity top for two reasons: one being cost and the other being to avoid etching. Will doing so deviate too much from my inspiration? We are adding a second floor to our midcentury ranch. We are converting 2 first floor bedrooms into a master suite, leaving the original master suite with its tiny bathroom as a guest room. We also have a full hall bath on the first floor that will be at the bottom of the stairs. We have 8 year old triplets (two boys and a girl) and a 9 year old girl. We are adding 3 bedrooms upstairs, 2 for the kids to share now and one for our older daughter when she wants her own. A bathroom with separated vanities and tub/toilet areas will be between the main bedrooms. We are also adding a media room and a study/playroom. I am debating adding a second bath upstairs. Any ideas if it is needed and if so where?

You can continue the same wood should you choose. Probably the biggest kille of wood in a bathroom is if the toilet bowl condenses, sweats and drips in the summer, or during periods of high humidity. More common in older homes or homes with no air conditioning. If you want dark wood, you can do that as well. FWIW, I have brazilian cherry in my master bedroom and bathroom. Throughout my whole house, actually. Dark wood. Looks great with no damage after 20 years. If you go with two different woods you can use a wood saddle to make the transition at the door. Or even a stone saddle. Perhaps use the same stone as your bathroom countertop if the countertop will be stone. If you use the same wood, if the strips run through the doorway a good installer can stitch the floors together, although it'd be easier to use a wood saddle at the transition. If they run parallel you can abut them with ease for a continuous look from one room into the next.

Maybe you could take the small closet across from the entrance to the SE bedroom and combine it with your current master closet? Then keep the window in the bathroom by installing a pocket door into master bathroom, or maybe a barn door? That way you can save a little space. Move shower to external wall corner where there’s currently the small closet near the entrance, double vanity along new wall? Then you’d get light from the window bouncing off the vanity mirror. Maybe it would help the bathroom look bigger too. You probably already know this, but trying to keep plumbing where it is as much as you can will save you a lot of money! More money to put into finishes, or another project! Good luck! Remember, there are many good choices here, not just one!
