Counter picked, now need backsplash. Ideas???
Comments (16)It's what you like. That being said, you did ask for our opinion. If you want a beautiful beach kitchen, I think that I would pick counters that looked like sand and somewhere, on the walls or the tile a beautiful calm steely blue. I really like Socalthreems color on her walls. Maybe a little lighter on your walls. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg021905448463.html?38 Maybe if you found a simple ocean blue glass tile. Your cabinets are beautiful and very elegant. I think that to honor them, you can add color, but it must be understated. I like the colors in this picture. I think they would look great in your kitchen. Remember, you can keep the kitchen colors calm (like a calm ocean) and you can add other color with accessories. I would try to make your base colors more timeless. Again, only my opinion. I just pictured a perfect backsplash. I calm glazed steely blue tile with a raise white glaze border that mimics the foam on the waves or maybe.....gee I can't even make up my mind for me...and I'm doing it for you? Comments (14)So many people get stuck on the backsplash, because they pick a busy (although beautiful) countertop and all the backsplashes they like, on the second shopping trip, don't work with it. I'd do what Rhome suggested and look for them at the same time. If you find a busy, glass tile backsplash that really 'speaks' to you, then you might need a calmer granite or other countertop. If you find a busy granite that you really want, then make sure you find a backsplash that will look good with it. The biggest problem I see on the forum is when people install the countertop and then ask...what backsplash should I pick? By then, the choices are often very limited or they choose something they don't like and have to do it twice. Best of luck finding a combination you really like! :)...See Moreneed a backsplash for laborite blue/green counter top in kitchen
Comments (21)I LOVE your counters - I considered a Blue Australe which seems similar to laboradite, but it was almost twice the price, at the time, of what I ended up choosing, Volga Blue. (very hard capturing either of these stones in a picture, isn't it) So I understand your challenge, I spent a long time puzzled over a backsplash for my counters. I went with the Seneca Tile company's Blue Lagoon from the Studio line. My counter reads black and hints of silver at first glance, the blue inclusions are subtle until you are trying to look for them, so it doesn't read too busy in real life. In the same line, they have a gorgeous variegated green called Waterlily, it might work in your kitchen Seneca waterlily- here's some more inspiration, some of these blue/ green mixes that may work- from http://senecatiles.com/senecablends-gallery/nggallery/page/1 Here's a work in progress shot of our Blue Lagoon backsplash going up- I have no regrets going bold and colorful, I feel happy every time I look at it...See MoreI'm trying to pick out backsplash to go with new granite countertops
Comments (10)Measure the distance between the counter and the bottom of the window sill, which looks to be around four inches. Have a backsplash of that height made from the same granite. Then paint down to the backsplash. That's the simplest solution. If you want tile between the counter and the upper cabinets, great, but keep that four inch granite backsplash and let the tile rest on it. In my experience, running wall tile down to the counter causes problems. For one, it creates a joint that constantly gets dirty and is difficult to clean. For another, the joint between the tile and the counter will absorb spills and cause the grout to crack and the tile to loosen. Whatever you decide, the area behind the cooktop needs special attention. A simple sheet of stainless steel would do the trick. Nice looking kitchen! I like the cabinets and the bay window....See MoreM Miller
