Well, I do not have Eternity in my house so I can't provide the kind of answer you're looking for. However, I do have a few thoughts to share that you may - or may not :) - find useful. AF-695 Eternity's hue family is blue. Here is the full hue/value/chroma color notation: 2.31B hue / 7.61 value / 0.23 chroma AF-700 Storm's hue family is yellow. 9.52 Y hue / 6.43 value / 0.12 chroma. Here's a sortable table of color notations for all the colors in the Affinity color collection. I don't do "undertones" especially with regard to paint colors because I think it's an ineffective at best, technically incorrect at worst, way to look at/think about color. For example, one probably would never guess that Storm's hue family is yellow. But it is yellow, on the cusp of green-yellow. And that's exactly why you think it reads as having " no undertones". The majority of whites and grays that people perceive as "true with no undertones" belong to a hue family in the yellow, green-yellow, green range. The Affinity deck is not arranged in any particular, technically precise spectral order. It looks like somebody just eyeballed it. So it's not correct to think that Eternity is "one down" from Storm meaning it's the same color but lighter. In addition to dissuading folks from the misleading pitfalls of "undertones", I also don't recommend cutting formulas. Because as you already know, you don't know what it's going to look like until you do it and once you start down that path, you own the gallons whether you like how they end up or not. The chroma part of the notation tells you how colorful or chromatic the color is. Eternity is already pretty low at 0.23. And its value is 7.61. My guess is lessening the colorant load, if possible at all, is going to shift the color from a "gray" category to a "white" category. Better off to just keep looking for the right light gray vs. monkeying around with cutting formulas, IMO. If you want to understand the Affinity color collection and hue families better, I suggest you reorder the deck according to the color notations. Many have told me that simple exercise of reordering the fandeck was life-changing and once they see the Affinity colors in proper hue family order they finally understand my point of view about "undertones".

The Indians used it for infant colic, but it also has a sedative effect on the nervous system. It is useful for many ailments" for all cases of fevers for its action in inducing sleep and in producing perspiration without increasing heat in the body. In children it is said to speedily overcome convulsions. It is also good for restlessness and colic and as a pain killer, especially for small children and infants. It has been known to help prevent a cold when drinking a warm infusion when you notice the first symptom. It helps in fatigue and improves circulation. It is said to help to prevent miscarriages and premature births. It helps in aches and pain due to flu and upset stomach and diarrhea associated with flu. Catnip is high in vitamins A and C, and the B-complex vitamins. It contains magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, sodium, and a trace of sulphur. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -I would caution using it on a regular basis since many herbals can cause liver toxins and even liver damage. I have an acquaintance who did herbal studies as a medical scientist this with a number of herbs and herbal blends on liver damage. -Dry it in the oven with the light on, between two layers of paper towels, rather than in the microwave if you don't have a dehydrator. Dry at a low temperature - 90-100°F. High-temp. drying will destroy many of the vitamins. -It is also suggested catnip be administered in the morning and evening. -If you take any Rx drugs or OTC medicines, check with a pharmacists for any possible drug interactions. -The tea is made from the dried leaves and flowering heads and is generally recognized as safe to use, plus it has a pleasant taste. There is one caution using it from a contemporary herbalist, Michael Moore. In general, "[catnip] may act to increase menstrual flow to varying degrees," so pregnant women should NOT use it. It can also cause spotting. -Harvesting: Gather the leaves and tops in late summer when the plant is in full bloom, and dry them carefully. Remove the tough stalks. Store in a dry place, away from light and heat. -If smoked, physicians have reported that catnip "was indeed mildly pshchoactive". -Culinary uses: as a salad ingredient -Catnip Tea: A standard beverage in England, where it is grown commercially, before the introduction of tea from China. To make catnip tea: Pour boiling water over the dried leaves/flowers and let it steep. Euell Gibbons [of the Grapenuts commercials fame decades ago] advised using a little more catnip per cup than you would ordinary tea. He also cautioned that catnip's flavor and aroma are very volatile, so he sat a saucer over his cup to "protect" his tea while it steeped. Euell Gibbons made candied catnip leaves to serve at the end of a meal, as a digestive aid or an after-dinner mint. His recipe calls for dipping catnip leaves into a mixture of beaten egg white and lemon juice. Then he sprinkled each side with sugar and let them dry for a day or so. Store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. I may be replying to an old post...having a white dilemma! Moving to a new home soon, and I need to choose a white for the painter soon! I used BM Cotton Balls in my current home in 2 bedrooms, one is north facing and the other is south facing. worked well...nice and bright but not stark, however the hallway to the rooms look beige, which I am not fond of. New home has both north and south exposures + a hallway without a lot of light. Considering Simply White. Second question...the baseboards are lovely and very high, I would like them to remain a feature, which white to choose for trim? Your comments are appreciated!!!

It has been a while since the last activity on this thread, and I felt it might be beneficial to give my updated perspective on White Opulence #879 from Benjamin Moore as a paint color for main areas. Having lived with this color for a bit longer now since my last comment, I am beginning to understand how tightly it regulates what other colors can be placed with it for anyone who cares about a homogeneous scheme and also how undeniable the pink tone can be when applied over large surface areas. White Opulence is a tint of red, but it is so light that in ample daylight or under bright white lighting it can "read" as white. In average daylight, it produces a whisper-light pink hue. The effect of this is magnified the larger the area that is covered by it. Using this color on the walls in the main space of a large, open-plan layout with high ceilings, for example, will imbue the area with a light, yet undeniable, pale pink cast in average lighting. It would be a good idea to prepare not only yourself but also any other significant users of the space of the pink tinge before selecting this color because some people truly dislike pink, and it is courteous to work with all regular users of spaces during design planning to try to ensure no one will be overly uncomfortable with the final effect. One thing that hasn't been discussed is how White Opulence can cast a peach tone under warmer lighting colors, especially in the absence of any compensating daylight, meaning nighttime in most home spaces. If peach is a color you want to avoid and you utilize warm lighting -- that is, progressively orange-tinged the further under a 4000K color temperature you go -- then this is a paint color to avoid. The general recommendation is that 4000K is quite cool for home environments, so if you don't know what color temperature your home lighting is, you can probably assume it is warmer than 4000K if you selected average bulbs from your home supplies provider. White Opulence as a red-based white was an attractive choice for my main space because I already had a red accent in a permanent finish and personally prefer the fresh look that a red-white lends versus common alternate choices for main area wall colors like yellow-based beiges or blue-based grays. The problem is that so many home goods available are manufactured in colors that go with beige and gray wall colors rather than the faint red-white of White Opulence that color coordination requires more work than may be expected. Of course, you could decorate using pure white items, but what you really need are options for whisper pink basics which are hard to find. Adding stronger pink or red items is not always the solution either because you cannot feasibly fill the room with accents; you need some basics that blend with the wall tone. Then there is the issue of coordinating White Opulence with colors for auxiliary rooms if you wish to have some variety throughout the home while still maintaining the feel that all of the home's colors work together. Most blues coordinate with White Opulence, but if you have already used red accents in rooms painted with White Opulence, then red is challenging to pair with blue in most instances unless it is a dark, cool blue like navy. Where this has been a dilemma for me has been my hallway colors connecting the main open space to the bedrooms which are all different pastels. The color plan I have will work, and I'll enjoy the variety of colors that I have been able to make flow together, but to be honest, at times I have wondered how much easier the design process might have been if I had picked plain white for the main space. White is the ultimate neutral some might say. At the very least, a basic white for the main area would have given me more freedom in selecting fabrics and other home products for the main space as well as coordinating colors for other rooms. It is all too easy to second-guess decisions that will affect your life long-term. I am using Benjamin Moore's durable Aura formula in a satin finish, so I expect the new White Opulence paint will last decades. Had I selected a plain white or yellow- or blue-based off white, I might be back on this very forum wishing I had gone with White Opulence to add appeal beyond the standard choices. I hope this is helpful to anyone still considering this color.
