Enjoying "Orange Smith" On This December Day

"Orange Smith" was collected on the grave of a Civil War veteran -- Orange Smith -- in a Gold Rush era cemetery.

At first glance, "Orange Smith" looks to be 'Archduke Charles,' but it generally has fewer petals, with more substance. 'Archduke Charles' often failed to open here, but "Orange Smith" never has that problem.

This is the first of a number of sprays and single blooms of "Orange Smith", maturing in the shade of 'Bishop Darlington' on this foggy December 5.
