What type of area rug???
Comments (12)Laurience, I wouldn't say you don't know what you want. It's nice to explore options & to think about different ways you can use what you have. I've seen sofas like yours used in settings that were very sleek & contemporary & I've seen them used in rooms that were very elaborate & embellished. Versatility is good! As for your rug, this is an opportunity to bring in some accent colors! On my monitor your curtains appear to be eggplant, is that correct? How about bringing that into the rug w/ some beiges & greens, maybe? As Lesgayle said, since your current palette is so neutral you really aren't limited....See MoreContemporary/ modern designers - granite question
Comments (18)If you're looking a Abstrakt, that's beyond contemporary and quite Danish modern. But if you think they look good together, you're the one that has to live with it. Have as much movement as you see fit. Just remember if you ever sell the place, the more middle of the road, the broader the appeal. And if you want others to ooh and aah (let's be honest, who doesn't want to be the envy of all their friends?), consider middle of the road. We just bought a modern style home that has a LOT of traditional finishes: light fixtures, 4 panel doors, huge fancy crown and base moldings, dark natural stone floorings, etc. It worked for them, but we're replacing everything with truly modern stuff. Not to follow style rules, but because it's our house, and that's what we want. I say it's your house, if you love it, do it! David...See MorePhotoshop help please
Comments (17)I love the proposed rug as an injection of color and life I to the room! If you already have those colors in striped chairs at the other end of an open plan LR / DR, it is perfect! If you are worried about the curtains not blending you could easily have a band of orange sewn down the leading edge of the curtains and along the bottom or top. Or have a seamstress sew wide bands or differencing width bands of solid colors from the rug width wise from the hem upwards....See MoreQuick opinions on rug?
Comments (21)I also like #1 better, but wonder if part of it is the not-so-great lighting in the second picture. The first rug seems to work really well with the wood tones in your flooring and cabinets while having a more fun pattern, so I think even with better lighting I'd still prefer the first one....See MoreWestCoast Hopeful
