Prune limelight now? Tuff stuff?

Our limelight hydrangeas have gotten much too wide, as have our tuff stuff hydrangeas (two different locations). We’ve had a light frost already, but the grass is still green and daytime temps in the 40s.

From what I gather, it’s ok to prune the limelights way back right now. I can keep them tall, but they’re overgrowing my roses. It’s easier and safer for me to do that now, before there’s snow and ice. What about the tuff stuff? They absolutely must be pruned, and I’d rather live with a season of no flowers than to have them block the walkway, as long as I don’t kill them.
