New Magma Gold granite countertops. - backsplash?
Comments (58)@ raehelen, Thank you, and YES, I am soooo happy that the granite/BS search is behind me!! LOL @ jancy, the cabinet color that I chose was Coffee Clutch. The code for the color is D1-7. I have read of many others using Bittersweet Chocolate by BM and Black Bean by SW. But, the Coffee Clutch looked great to me at Ace, so I chose it. I did have to sand the cabinets to rough them up, and I primed them with a tinted primer first. I think I used Zinser 123. The cabinet and trim paint goes on really nice. I just brushed it on and it went on nice and smooth. Almost smooths itself out. Just use long strokes and plan on 2 coats. It dries hard and shiny. I did not have to poly over it. I painted them over a year ago and they've held up beautifully! The other nice thing was that the wood grain still shows through. It came out really well. Don't be afraid... go for it!! :)...See MoreWhat color cabinets will go with Juparana Colombo Gold countertops?
Comments (10)It's too small for the bold veining in the granite, and the contrasting grout makes it more pronounced/busy. You don't need a picture behind the cook top , either. Keep it VERY simple, The granite is plenty of power : ) A soft white ceramic subway in a newer size, like 2 x 10, or 4 x 12....and match the grout,. Done. Depending cabinet color selection....See MoreIs a base cabinet microwave more "high end" looking than countertop?
Comments (17)Why do you care if (according to strangers on the internet) it looks more "high end"? It's your kitchen, decide what makes you happy. Our microwave is on the counter (in an inside corner near the fridge, making use of normally dead space) and will stay there when we renovate, because I am not going to devote a custom cabinet to a short-lived and inexpensive appliance that does not come in a standard size. A 30" range is easy to swap out when it dies; finding a replacement microwave that exactly fits a custom cabinet designed for its predecessor may not be. Ergonomics is another consideration. Imagine taking a bowl of hot soup out of the microwave. If the microwave is elevated much above counter height, that could be perilous....See MoreYou Know New Venetian Gold Counters, But NOT This Mural! Paint Help!
Comments (9)@Jessica You have a lovely kitchen. So much space to work and cook. Is the mural important to you? You could cut the sheetrock and try to save the piece of art and replace the sheet rock patching etc. That will cost money unless you are handy with sheet-rocking. Do you really love it? You could also photograph it and hire an artist to copy it. If it is valuable or important to you. keep it. But for me, I would not hesitate to paint over it and move on. A photo would be all I might keep of the pretty mural. Obviously the original owners did not mind leaving it. It may be my monitor by the floors and the dark black cabinets seem to be battling a little with each other. Getting rid of the tuscan yellow walls will really improve that fight and your space. I would try to find a more creamy looking white if you must go white. What is the white color of the cabinets? Can you add brighter bulbs to the recessed lights? This will help get the space brighter too. Are you keeping the other colors ? the maroon sponge painted great room, the library (BM Caribbean Blue Water), on the west wall. The doorway on the north wall leads to the breezeway (currently sponge painted yellow/gold with murals), the dining room (now BM Aura Matte Pacific Ocean Blue), and my office (BM Aura Matte Teal). Venetian gold counters can sometimes look nice with creamy beige or greige colors. I agree with you Gray might not work as the floors may be a little too red to work with gray. @Teresa Halley had a fantastic idea. If Softer Tan SW goes with your counters I would do that color. Some ideas. If your floors were less red orange I might consider one of the grays below...See Morebonniebrownhair
