Duvet covers and comforter questions
Comments (27)I am from england and a duvet to me means the fluffy down filled blanket an the cover what goes over it. As other ppl have said u can get different weights of these duvets an it wouldn't matter how fluffy the duvet is as long as it's the same measurements, the cover shouldn't rip as long as it's a duvet you are putting in it. The fastenings usually go at the bottom of the bed basically for cosmetic reasons and also I have found when fastenings have been at the top I tend to somehow end up with my arms inside the cover! I also don't like feeling the fastenings when I am trying to get comfortable. Not sure if that helps but that's how we do it here....See MoreA king comforter for a queen duvet cover?
Comments (5)I also have a king comforter in a queen duvet cover. My comforter is slightly bigger than the duvet cover, but doesn't cause a problem for me and fits much better than my queen comforter did. However, the best way to tell is to measure your duvet cover and then check the size of the comforter you order or buy. The actual measurements are usually listed along with the "king" or "queen" (at least when ordering online). That way you're not surprised. You'll find that sizes vary greatly--by as much as 8-10" on each side--while still being called "queen"!...See MoreLayered cozy bed without a duvet/comforter
Comments (16)I purchased a wool mattress pad that saved my sanity. Helps DH feel warm and keeps me cool. Never would have believed that possible! I have a sheet, empty duvet cover, and a quilt for DH on colder nights. The thought of flannel is making me break out in a sweat, right now! I've been revamping/testing our guest room and found it quite chilly during cold snaps with only a cotton blanket. I ordered a wool comforter from Amazon that fits into a clearance duvet from West Elm. I'm going to test it in the next few days, but I have high hopes that it will keep differing people comfortable just like the mattress cover on our bed. Tonight the low is 64 and Sunday it will be 39. I'll report back. DH won't be happy that I'm bunking in there again, but I've made a few discoveries that I need to address before our guests stay overnight. Gosh! I didn't even address the bohemian part! That just happens as you mix linens/pillows/covers between sets/rooms. Comments (8)After reading CB's comment, I suppose there is a lot more confusion about this than I thought! haha. My understanding is: 1. Comforter - can be like CB described, a bed-in-a-bag thickly stuffed fluffy blanket that goes on top of the bed. It can also be a high quality down or synthetic fill fluffy blanket usually sold in white, but can come in other colors as well. 2. Duvet - is the decorative "envelope" for a plain down comforter. The comforter is placed inside the duvet and the duvet usually has one end with buttons to secure the comforter inside the duvet. This allows you to have the comfort of a down blanket with much more extravagant decorations than down comforters typically come in. 3. Bedspread - is used in lieu of a comforter most times. It is a decorative blanket, usually much thinner than a comforter and has a nice decorative detail. Is used on top of the whole bed normally. Is usually a large size that covers the length of the bed all the way down the sides to the floor 4. Coverlet - more like a quilt. Smaller than bedspread. Lots of people use these to fold at the foot of the bed and use to keep feet warm to to pull up to provide extra warmth during the night....See Morecoastalcure
