Comments (12)hinge on left is a "face frame cup hinge"- other names exist hinge on right is "euro hinge" other names exist In both cases there are at least 6 mfgs who have up to dozens of variations of swing, cabinet clip, attachment... What do you really need to know? Soft close hinges- newest and most common the soft close is built into the hinge. Older ones had a piston mounted in the cabinet for the door to hit on closing. You might be able to clean them- carefully- no solvents, no WD40 (which is a solvent) but unlikely. On newer glides the soft close mechanisms is integral and can't really be repaired. The older (over 5 years) could be replaced if they were blum. Note that dust can be the death of undermount glides. Sawdust from install not cleaned or worse, granite dust and often the glides will have to be replaced. Keep after your installers....See MoreDoes anyone know what you would call this type tray?
Comments (19)Thanks Allison! I hope that didn't come across snippy. What I meant was some of the best deals I find in antique shops are those little hole in the wall - stuff piled high and under stuff, etc. You can get some good deals. Not the upscale places. I do love vintage silver and of course you can find some pricey stuff. I also find a good bit on ebay (people sometimes really don't know what they have!) and etsy (vintage). I appreciate you keeping a lookout. I'm fine with silver plated, vintage/antique would be great if I can find it for a good deal, but a new piece would be fine also. dlm200 - I'm not in a hurry, that's part of the fun - the search, finding just the right thing. That tray is GORGEOUS! $4????!!!!! Allison I forgot to answer your question - I would use the tray as shown in the pic I posted - on a side table, perhaps a chest I have in my dining room, something like that. tina...See MoreDo you know what this style furniture is called?
Comments (20)Sorry it has taken me so long to get these pictures taken and I am not a good photographer, but best I can do with my cell phone. As you can see, my one chair has channels in the back and down the arms. On the couch and matching chair they are plain cushion backs. The versions like you want to buy with the channels are more collectible. These are in my guest house, called the "Bond Bungalow" as I will eventually be placing all my James Bond movie posters and memorabilia in that room. I have a steel post daybed in there and will be using that green and orange tropical fabric laid on the couch for the daybed comforter and pillows on the couch. The walls in that room are apple green, the carpeting is gray. I have black shelves in there too. Anyway, it will be a while before I get to that room for the full decor but it is a functional guest room now with a full bath and closet. I had the furniture covered in the same textured velveteen like upholstery material and finished the wood in a dark mahogany. The big chair did have some woodwork on top of the arms, but it was broken and not repairable, so it was finished without that....See MoreFori
