need help with fireplace design

Having trouble with fireplace design! I didn’t realize how many different things you can do. We have been told our style is transitional/traditional eclectic? I’m also having a hard time since the shelving is bigger on one side due to us wanting the fireplace in the center of the room.

Hang a mantel and art with an art lamp at the fireplace. Fill the large recess with a credenza and TV. Light the left side opening and install glass shelves or build a closed display and show off a collection of large art pieces like blown glass or other collectible.

Those are great, CeleryGirl. I guess I am going to think about adding the wider window on the right only. The one that's there doesn't open and it's too close to the fireplace. Do you all think the window on the right should be the same height as the front window? Should I ignore the ceiling slope or should I incorporate some detail over the fireplace that goes straight up to the ceiling?

Thank you MSDG I don't know if I'm doing paneling work -- I need help designing the entire wall. The firebox cannot be moved because there is an egress window right next to it on the outside (basement). I'm not looking for the black/white look, I was showing the photo for the mantle style. What do you mean "Furred out portion around fire box?" Do you mean the marble before the wood post section? I can't decide if I should do a heart or not. I like it sometimes, but I need to figure out the entire wall to see what looks good together. I also like the look of a window seat, but I don't want it to look so casual like a kitchen bench. Do you think I should put a new window only on the right side of the fireplace? What are your thoughts on a bench seat underneath it? Thanks so much for your help!!

@Terra S - I love how your fireplace and TV wall turned out. We are looking at replacing our off-center fireplace with a linear one. If you could answer some questions, I would really appreciate it. Face a large door the ends of wood logs so that it appears you have log storage for the fireplace.

I would mount the TV to the right of the FP

I always like the look of the stacked logs, but maintenance is prime with me. If you don't treat them for termites and other insects, you can get an infestation. Who wants those products hanging out in your living area? The wood may also deteriorate somewhat and be messy. Of course. there are decals or murals that can give you the same look, but pretty fake. Do you collect anything interesting?
