My Thanksgiving Holiday Redecorating Nightmare (LOL)!!!

Our 27 y/o daughter and her boyfriend are here from Dallas until this coming Sunday, a 15-day holiday trip visiting with us, as they can work via the internet these days. Months ago, DH and I spent a looong time shopping for a very comfortable sleeper sofa for our guest room, finally found one, and bought it. It WAS supposed to arrive before Thanksgiving, but because of Covid/shipping delays, will now probably not get here until January . . . or March. Ugh!!!!

And so, of course, our 4 y/o very nice inflatable guest bed chose the day before the "kids" arrived to develop multiple leaks. We tried patching them, but more just developed and DH had to quickly run out to buy another motorized inflatable bed. Thank goodness he could find one this close to the holidays! The kids tell me it's actually very comfortable.

And then, in their spare time together, DD and DH have decided that her old bedroom (formerly our second guest room) would make a great workout room, and just went at it! So far, they've set up our Bowflex in there, brought in the free weights, Bodyblades, etc. They've taken down all the artwork off the walls, her bedding, rugs, a chair, etc., and deposited them in OUR bedroom and up and down the bedroom hallway for the time being! They're now getting ready to dismantle her bed in there, and are asking me to find someplace to donate it so that our Elliptical can be dragged in there next. Oh, and to add a tv so that "we" can workout to exercise videos if we choose. They did, thankfully, hang a number of DH's nature-themed artwork from our clinic (he's retired) on the walls in there, so we do have less art stacked behind doors now. And to top it off, their little 9-pound dog, our grandbaby India, keeps getting lost or stuck in the middle of all these stacks, as she has dementia. Oh, and DH wants us to next replace the curtains and window seat cover in there with "more appropriate" colors (LOL)! This house looks like someone turned it upside down and shook it! I have no idea when things will get back to a new normal, or when I'll be able to start decorating for Christmas. The kids will be back here for Christmas, too . . . which we do love. It's just going to be a very crazy couple of months around here! And to think, up until last week, I happily and contentedly considered our home to be completely decorated!

Oh my goodness, Lynn! I’m tired just reading that!

I’m envious of the workout room, I wish I had one. Our garage workout space gets a bit toasty in the Texas summer. 🥴Tell them to come do mine next. 😄

Also — very glad to see you today, was wondering where you were. Now I see you’ve been a bit busy. :)

Sounds like you are in for a wild ride. Hope it is more fun than stressful. Sounds like an adventure to me!

I have two hanging cactus plants that I would like to identify. The plants resemble Christmas etc only one has very large leaves and blooms with tiny little pale yellow blooms all around the leaf at each point. the other has smaller twisted leaf with a yellow bloom at the end of a stem and then a round bulbus growth in it's place. I can take pictures of them as they are now, but lost pictures of the blooms when my computer crashed. Thanks for any help you can give.

DREAM! DREAM!! DREAM!!! You are the answer to my prayers. Well, one of them anyway! LOL I must know all about your glasses. Aunt B had just one and I haven't been able to find anymore, anywhere, or find any info about them. I'm going to go write down 'Indiana Recollection' down right now and stick it in the glass so I will at least remember the name to search for now!! They are the same aren't they? I'm sooo excited!!! Please excuse my blue bedroom shoe in the background! I was trying to get a good shot to send to my niece who is helping with the hunt for these illusive glasses. I have some little saucers to go with your pink dinner plates. I also, was bummed because the color doesn't show up as much as I want it to. I was hunting for the green salad plates exactly like your pink dinners and the pink dessert dishes for a tablescape I was trying to copy. I only found these.. Oh Girl, I didn't mean to highjack your Thanksgiving tablescape post, but you have NO IDEA how frustrated I've been trying to find these glasses! I've been all over creation with my 1 little glass to every GW, TS, SA, and antique shop trying to find them. Thank you so much for using them in your post. What a Thanksgiving present!! NOW GIVE ME ALL OF THE DETAILS!!!! QUICK!! Hurry, I'm getting lightheaded! OK, OK I'm calming down now. Deep breaths, deep breaths. Back on the subject... You know I love that centerpiece from all of the gushing I did in your other post. Adding Mr Turkey really made it Thanksgiving. He's sooo cute! Great minds think alike. I think we all fell for those lovely turkey plates this year. I know I did! I LOVE all of your candlelight shots. What a beautiful table to enjoy Thanksgiving at. Deanna, click on Kathleen's link, there's the recipe. It's really pretty easy, The Princess made the ganache. I put the peanut butter fudge filling in a round cake pan lined with saran wrap and froze it, so I could just plop it on top of the cake layer and then cover it with ganache. It worked pretty well.... dcarch, it doesn't have the design elements of your table, but it was pretty darned good! Annie

Hi Mellie... I get asked that question soooo often from other GW people..I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond..but I haven't seen it there lately. Your best bet is to look online for something similar...Good Luck! KA:)

Sounds like joyful chaos. Poor doggie, stay by her side.

We just had to let our old girl go but her issues were more physical than mental. She was just slightly ditzy. if i could have made it so she would be carried everywhere in a sedan chair she’d still be here looking forward to her next meal (labrador).

Lynn, it sounds to me you had a really fun time with the kids. I call it "Fun stress."

Like Norar_il asked, did you want your spare room turned into a workout room? Oh, I know. It's your DD who is not so very subtly telling you, "It's my room and as long as I'm alive, I'll do what I want with it!" lol

Oh, she's a smart one.

Well, my hubs has been talking about turning DD’s bedroom into a workout room for a few months now, but I’ve been hesitant because (1) I wanted to keep it as a lovely second guest room; and (2) What if she wanted to move back to New Mexico? I wanted her cozy, familiar bedroom here for her until she got her own place. Kind of pitiful, I know, as she’s a 27 y/o very successful licensed therapist in Dallas. (Sigh), but she tells me she can afford to get her own place if she ever moves back to NM. And, our other guest room is larger and “not decorated in a lavender, white and black French theme” (LOL)! Soooo, I just smiled a bit and said to go for it when they proposed the redo to me this time.
And so, I’ve already contacted a local agency in a nearby town that gives a helping hand up to parents of kids in need. We’re donating the French artwork, lamp, (washed) comforter, sham, sheets, down comforter and cover, throw rugs, chair, cozy throw, and throw pillows off her window seat. I’m washing it all today. Some girl or girls are going to get some really pretty bedroom things someday soon, so that makes me happy.

I'm curious Lynn. Did you already have the exercise equipment somewhere else?

Knowing how you love to decorate I hope eveything is back in place so you can start your Christmas decorating.

Way to go, Lynn! You’re a good Mom, and a great sport (see how I worked that word in there?). I’m betting you and your DH will enjoy the workout room.

I’ve actually had in mind doing the same thing with one of our spare bedrooms. Our grandkids are much older and don’t overnight with us like they did when younger. I’ll likely see if anyone wants some of the furniture. I have a couple of grands getting out of college soon so maybe they will want it, and if not it will be donated too.
