Wait, let me take my hearing aid out!
Comments (15)Funny you should ask - I find more and more I look at the Call Display and start speaking with the person without a hello, or I say 'Hello, Joan', or whoever it is...most on the other end seem so amazed that I know it's them...lol. As many of them are my tenants, I think it's great that they think I am so 'all knowing'...lol. Suzan J...See Morehearing aid questions
Comments (19)Can't speak for the VA part, but the HA part I can DH has had them since he was 6. Last pair we bought was 2 years ago..and we got the higher end. He has a severe hearing loss. He gets the digital (only amplifies the tones he can't hear, not all tones), CIC ones. They run about $5K, and are guaranteed for 3 years, we can then extend the warranty for another 2 years I think it is. Now..there is also one out that looks great, and I've known a couple of people out there that LOVE them...they're more like having a little microphone that sits just outside the ear opening (don't know if that area has a name)...so they don't have the "stuffed ear" feeling. DH goes to an audiologist, they do the hearing test for free. His hearing aids are Siemens..and Siemens are a great buy. The behind the ear can cause problems as you hear what's behind you (that's where the microphone is), where the CIC or the other ones (bit larger)...and I think that newer one I just mentioned...you hear what comes into the ear, as you would naturally. They're suppose to last about 5 years, but we try for 10..because they are so expensive and not covered by insurance. They can be covered by money in a cafeteria plan, but HSA's are more complicated. The cost of HA has stayed the same, but the quality goes up..along with the technology. Vickey...See MoreA question about Hearing aids
Comments (16)Here testing by an audiologist or hearing aid specialist is free regardless of age. And most offer free 30/45 day trials. I have had better luck with the hearing aid specialist company than my local audiologist. The specialist has a direct line to an audiologist at Phonak, the brand that I have. I have the top of the line and also purchased the TV and Music set. Mine are 4 or 5 years old so technology has changed. My hearing loss is in the lower frequencies as opposed to higher frequencies. Mine is much harder to correct and I have struggled for years. I had a free checkup last week and learned that my right ear loss has increased. And of course, they wanted to sell me the latest and greatest new model. Haven't decided yet. I wish we had a Costco. The closest is an hour and a half away. Anyway, good luck!...See MoreDoes anyone have a hearing aide?
Comments (18)I got my Kirkland 9.0 aids (made by Sonova, Switzerland) in October 2019, following a free evaluation and customization by a Costco tech (not an 'audiologist'). These are 'open ear', with a tiny speaker in the ear connected by a slim wire to the microphone/booster behind the ear. This is not the molded plug that shuts out all ambient sound. My hearing loss is not significant, but I'm glad I got these. The all-in cost was $1500 for the pair, exam, fitting and any future service calls. I'm well satisfied with them. If I've failed to insert them when dressing in the morning, I'll go get them to be able to understand the TV without cranking up the sound. I 'hear around' them for telephone calls, but could pair them with the phone. When it's safer, I'll go back to have these adjusted as I know my hearing has worsened. Being able to hear is important for my ability to be involved in life around me. Science says the brain starts shutting off some pathways when we can't hear and react....See Morebbstx
