granite overhang on cooktop island - how far can I go?
Comments (2)I would have your granite installed, and then if you think it looks odd you can always have your carpenter go back and add the decorative molding. the only thing I can think of is that the one in your inspiration photos has a bit more room below the overhang and where the doors start. The trim is lovely though. I had one side of my cooktop island extended by 12" so that I could accommodate a stool and I love the additional real estate next to my cooktop. I just had them round the edge, so it doesn't look like a straight plane, if that makes sense. I didn't have anything added underneath it and I don't mind it at all. I had also considered decorative trim or corbels, but decided to see how I liked the granite alone first....See MoreHelp. Do I coordinate area rug with runner AND do i paint front door?
Comments (7)Beth & Jan’s Navy would be beautiful! Bronze would be interesting! Can u do a bronze with out getting too “orangey”? Thinking that may go well with the nailheads on the leather chairs... So would either of those colors have to be in the stair runner? There’s not a bronze in the ARug. Would that be ok?...See MoreFront door ‘area’ decor updates... help new friends!
Comments (21)I do LOVE that paint color, but where we are storm doors are essential. They are usually the only thing closed. The large interior doors are usually opened first thing in the morning and left open during the day, Theres a set straight behind them behind the stairwell that open to the back porch that match - though the idea of new storm doors had not occurs to me!! Certainly something to think about. I wonder if I could get away with a different type of storm door with such a traditional style of house... I do need to paint these and the surrounding trim - it’s on the to do list. However, I don’t think I could venture color wise on the trim as there are too many windows and too much trim. However, Now I want to look at storm doors! 😆 here’s the rest of house if it helps - our style is pretty Virginia colonial...See MoreHow can I update the front of our home?
Comments (10)I actually think your house is perfectly charming as is --odd trim and all, it's a mid century Mock Tudor that got a lighter color scheme on the half timbering and more modern windows at some point. I like the subtle nicely correlated color scheme. I am not sure what the drive is for everyone to make their house look generic in the name of updating, but here it is with varying levels of trim removed: I like the first two with the removal of the brackets but keeping some of the trim. I think the last one makes the top of the house look builderish. And sorry, I completely disagree with turning this into a 2000s fake farmhouse with ill proportions....See Moreapple_pie_order
