Contractor pricing for Marvin Ultimate windows in New England?
Comments (9)Alarm bells rang when I read you will be purchasing the windows. Who will be providing to the window seller the measurements and other specifications? I am surprised your contractor is OK with this arrangement. Doesn't he have a relationship with a lumberyard--preferably Marvin-certified? And if he doesn't, why not? If you are set on Marvin windows, you should find a contractor who actively sells them. My contractor sent me to his preferred lumberyard so I could pick out which of the Marvin lines I wanted and see and touch them live with their pros and cons. The person helping me there said several times that my contractor would be providing the specs, and they'd arrange delivery with him. If your contractor's price is higher than you'd like, get bids from other contractors, and/or look at other less expensive brands. You can go on Marvin's website and see a list of suppliers in your location. But they will expect to work with your contractor. Even if they will sell to you directly, I don't even see how you can save money that way. Any Marvin supplier will not be able to charge you a contractor price....See Morewindow replacement and new siding - new construction vs vinyl in WI?
Comments (11)We have been replacing windows over the past two years and have had our local glass replacement business, which does windows and glass shower door installations, do the work. The second floor windows were done by a different installer who took too long and was a one-man operation. Each installer, we found, used windows manufactured by small operations -- one in Minnesota and one in Ohio. We've found that most replacement windows were manufactured the same way and looked very similar. The important factor was the installer, his/her skill, and knowledge about what they were doing. Our installer even replaced some interior trim in the kitchen. We removed the old wood windows which were original to our 1928 home with vinyl. Very happy with the results. So my point is to check with your local business and they will tell you who they use, give you an estimate, and references. Good luck!...See MorePocket Windows replacing New Construction Windows

Comments (16)Another option which we don’t want is a picture window which does not open & we want something that has the ability to open. With casements, be mindful of the prevailing wind direction. You don't want the cranked out window to block the prevailing wind. If the windows are on the side of the house that catches prevailing wind, be mindful of which direction the window cranks out. Also, if the house is oriented so that the windows catch prevailing wind, it doesn't do much good for the middle window in a 3 window bank to be operational. The middle window can be fixed glass....See MoreK M
