What about a shot of contemporary lighting in kitchen? So Stuck.
Comments (15)Thank you. Thank you. I just wanted to have some validation before I ordered it. I'm going for it. I definitely will use black and white throughout. The color will actually be a background to the black and white. I'll be sure to post photos once I'm done. I guess my kitchen & surrounding areas will be the lone LOUD shocking space on the forum.LOL! I love creamy and pale and sedate. It's very sophisticated. In fact, I've done it in previous homes and would have never guessed I'd be faced with a situation like I'm in. But this spec house with so little natural light and zero architectural charm BEGS for color and a "happy factor." I moved from a 1920s raised Acadian cottage in New Orleans with good bones and tons of architectural interest to a subdivision spec house with not one ounce of charm or architectural interest in another state. I would have never chosen this house, but I'm here and I want to bloom and this seemed the right direction to go. So, on this forum, at times...I feel like a fish swimning upstream with no marble, limestone, blingy chandeliers and a simple 10 x 10 U-shaped kitchen with (sadly) no room for an island or much else for that matter. thanks again for all your input. If anyone pipes in after this I'll still be checking. I'm all for lots of creative thinking. I'm going to check out all the designers above. Thank you all again. :-)...See MoreHelp - How to add color/life to my kitchen (lotsaPICS)
Comments (44)Your kitchen is beautiful. It just needs a little fun added to it. The valance that starts from the ceiling with the stage coach ties would be a good choice. I think that picture is a great example of how you can bring colors into the room from the fabric. Also, I would suggest using the same valance in the dining area. The picture with the shorter valance looks too choppy. I would look for a print fabric that had some of the colors of the granite in it. I really like the iron art over the stove although I would prefer to see a tile BS, if funds allow it. The dining table needs a large colored art bowl. I agree with Igloo, the colbat just doesn't make it and you need to pull in the golds and rusts. Colbalt blue actually sticks out like a sore thumb but it may work if you have art or fabric with a little colbalt blue in it along with rusts and golds. I would not use any rug in an eating area unless you were using a glass table. The patio doors look fine without any treatment but a valance would add some warmth to the room and still give you full view (use one that starts from the ceiling) Don't worry about tying in the white appliances. I would just ignore them since the wood trim is painted white (that's enough white). Once you get the window treatments squared away, I would like to see some colored accessories in the glass cabs instead of plain white. Comments (5)Thanks for all the responses. I'll answer each one. LWO: Originally I had a wall blind corner with the original layout, then I changed from an OTR microwave to a microwave wall cabinet and wood range hood. That changed the upper cabinets. The problem is that I'm big with symmetry and didn't like the look on the sink or range wall because cabinets on either side of the window on the sink wall and cabinets on either side of the range hood weren't balanced. Funkycamper: I don't feel comfortable with cutting down the 15 1/2" to 13 1/2" cabinet. I don't mind assembling the cabinets. Years ago I actually assembled and stained cabinets for my parent kitchen. buehl: I did think about doing all wall cabinets at 15 1/2" deep, but thought that they would be too deep and look strange with 24" base. Can you post your 15" wall cabinets over 24" base? Not sure about doing 27" deep cabinets or pulling them out 3". Something to think about. My concern with that is how the range would look. I'm actually doing a 26" deep sink cabinet in the current plan to add some visual interest. I've looked at other cabinet lines that will do 13 1/2" EZ Reach corner, but they're about 50 % higher then Contestoga. The cost of the cabinets from Conestoga are about $8500 to $8900 depending on who I go with. They're is about 16 total cabinets not including 30" deep fridge end panels. Thanks again for your comments and opinions. Please keep them coming. They're appreciated. That's what I love about GW. Comments (6)if you want to stay calm and neutral, and more to blend: soft white..don't steer too blue since you don't want it..or too yellow so you won't get cream if you're into being daring, and contrasting ..I might try blush pink:)(I'd say fuschia but you asked for a lighter color)) and clear, lemon-y yellow..it's not light, yet yellow can look like it has light from within..depends on your space of course, and the light it gets.. so always try.. try whites too..don't take anything for granted until you see it on your walls in your space, in different times of a day..sample, then look at it morning, noon, afternoon, and in artificial lighting..you want to like it all the time, or at least most of the time it's not necessarily that light color will make room lighter, automatically..and it's hard to predict until you try. it's amazing how every space is unique and different, and how differently a paint color will behave in it beautiful choices so far, and good luck!...See MoreKendrah
