That looks like a really tight prep area between your sink and range. If you're changing countertops, could you also swap cabinets left and right of the range, to give you a little more space in the primary prep area? (I can't see lower cabinets left of range, so this may not be feasible.) I'd also recommend swapping your sink out for a workstation sink--that would also give you a little more prep area, and an awesome single-bowl sink for washing. And since you're doing new countertops, what about having a countertop-height bar at the peninusula? That deeper countertop would be more useful for the cook and for anyone seated on the bar side.

Where is your dishwasher? None of the visible lower cabinets look like a dishwasher panel.

Dishwasher is in the peninsula 🙄. Would love to move it to the right if the sink, but it would be right in the corner.

Oh, wow, that's inconvenient. My current kitchen is a slightly smaller U, and my dishwasher is in the corner. It's annoying on a daily basis. But I think I would rather have that problem than have my dishwasher across the kitchen from my sink.

To really think about the 'new' option you'll need to do some more work. A scale layout of your first floor with lots of dimensions and all windows/doors drawn in is a start.

What is behind the stained door?

Modern farmhouse is a dead oxymoron. Soft Modern, which has roots in 80’s Contemporary, is what is next. And that kitchen would be just about perfect for that, as is. It’s already got the whitewashed wood cabinets, and white counters, with natural wood floors. It doesn't need anything but more touches of wood and black. Why spend 80K to rip that out and replace it with virtually the same thing?

Nothing wrong with a u-shaped kitchen with a peninsula (methinks it is a "G").

But YOURS is not laid out well and could be improved quite a bit. I'd gut it for function.

My #1 priority would be to get the dw next to the sink. I don’t think I have ever seen one that far from the sink. Crazy!

I think if it is possible to move cabinetry around like mcaroll16 suggested, it might be worth exploring. Especially if they are in excellent condition.

As far as the style of cabinets goes, I think the greenish stain on that rustic wood is very unique, and in a good way! I could see it easily leaning towards a rustic or farmhouse style. Here is a picture I found typing in “green stained wood cabinets”. (yours looked greenish to me) I think this is more craftsmen style, but you get the idea.

Posting a scale floor plan would help to see if it would be possible to rearrange the cabinets you have or if it would be better to start fresh.

Nice kitchen! I would keep everything the way it is with very minor changes. If you want to paint the cabinets go for it. Changing the hardware will also give the cabinets a different look. But as for starting new - I would give that a second thought. Ask around and see what renovation during Covid is like. With the labor shortage and materials shortage you could end up with a kitchen nowhere near as nice as what you currently have. New is not always better.

Thank you all! I will definitely consider keeping the cabinets green. Priority will be to relocate dishwasher, if possible.

​Modern farmhouse is fine for modernizing a farmhouse. Otherwise it's just a trend that will soon be a huge waste of money. Think about what appeals to you about the modern farmhouse look and try to achieve it in less trendy ways. For example, do you have roots in farming? Then put some farm related decor in there like a picture of a barn. Do you like a comfortable feel? Then try rounded edges on the counter or a bit of bright cherry color. Do you like the rustic natural feel? Then try wood cabinetry.  But keep in mind the overall style of your house and location.

Second, think about function. What in your current layout isn't working for you? Go from there.
