I am certain people are willing to help out but we need images of the furniture you have described (all that you are planning to move into this space) OR are you buying all new pieces to install? This will help clarify things a great deal. Are they willing to part with certain pieces if it turns out they are moving in with all of their things?

Unfortunately since I’m so far away right now I don’t have any images. I just need help figuring out where to place two recliners so they watch tv and where to place a sofa.

Sofa floating with back to dining area, recliners floating in the remainder of the space. Consider a drop leaf table behind the sofa in the dining area. That will save space and allow the sofa to be pushed further into the dining area so there's more room to circulate in the living area. Try mounting TV on an articulated arm so it can be adjusted for viewing from chairs and dining area.

Not sure about furniture sizes and sofa dimensions which are all very relevant but without it I have simply placed them in a layout which may work for the space. Near the wall and window is a low console for the tv so that it is not fixed to the wall. Behind the sofa is another console so that once does not enter the room and simply see the back of a sofa. It softens the visuals upon entry into the room. Hmmm...Would love to see the entire floor plan as I would consider switching what the plan has designated as dining space for living space and vice versa, but the kitchen is likely close to the dining room. Option anyhow....

If your parents each use a recliner chair, would they/you consider not using the couch at all? On those occasions when someone stops in, they could all gather at the table or use the chairs. The room would appear more spacious, and they wouldn’t be knocking into end tables. Just a thought.

Measure the folks’ furniture pieces and make graphpaper cutouts to-scale. Draw the room to-scale on graph paper. Try various layouts with the furniture cutouts. Try separating the living room from the dining room with the sofa facing the living room, and place the recliners facing the fireplace and TV, with a small table between them. If there is a coffee table, try it in front of the sofa. Any extra side tables could flank the sofa. If your parents like to have music going, perhaps a console cabinet or a taller table can accommodate their stereo on another wall area. If your folks are social, the sofa could accommodate two guests while your folks sit in the recliners in the chair position. Leave walkways behind the seating pieces for access to the other rooms.

Another option would be to hire an electrician to redirect the tv cables behind the wall and above the fireplace and have those two stacked to create a defined focal point. You could then simple slide the furniture placement in my example down in front of the fireplace, remove the coffee table for chairs to recline if necessary with the end tables in between them and the sofa (on either side of the sofa). Of course you would no longer have need of the tv console.
