Help me decorate my ugly living room!
Comments (25)Definitely like the love seat in front of the window. I would put an end table with a lamp on it between the sofa and love seat, put a sofa table behind the sofa that has its back to the entry, keep the TV above the fireplace but lower it. I like a symmetrical look and if you put the TV on either side of the fireplace it would throw that off. Decide what colors you want to accent with and use those colors in art work, drapes/panels and accessories. If you do use drapes, mount the rod higher and wider than the window. You have a great room it just needs some tweaking....See MoreCan anyone help my long and ugly LR/DR
Comments (31)Thank you Bev for giving me the visualization I've been lacking! It really helps! I agree that the colors In the painting have been giving me difficulty. I may try to move it into the DR or another room, but it is quite large, so I'm not sure. In any case, you have helped me feel bolder about getting started on this project. Thank you!! Chucksmom: I I00% agree that if you love something, it doesn't matter if it's "out". In my case, I do think I'm tired of the colors and need a change. Since the whole house needs painting, it seems like a good time to implement these changes. The chandelier was something I really loved for a long time, but I need a aimpler look. I have a friend who wants it and it will be perfect in her DR. Kippy: I've always thought it was strange that the furniture faces the stairs. Maybe it's partly why the room feels weird to me. That and the high ceilings make it feel cold. We actually never use that room other than when there are large gatherings that spill into that part of the house. We all congregate in the FR. Kitchen and backyard, though the cats like to curl up on the sofa!...See MoreIdeas for an ugly, mid 90’s Florida tile living room
Comments (2)I’m not a pro... Congratulations on your new home! I think the right shade of white or off-white will make a huge difference. After painting, rugs will bring it all together for you. If possible, removing the valances would be a good idea....See MoreI live in an UGLY BOX! What would you do to make this house cool??
Comments (32)Your house isn't ugly. The first word that comes to mind is dramatic. If you truly want a change from the "box", you need to change shapes rather than just materials. On the downstairs left rear side, you might want to wrap and enlarge that post so the upstairs doesn't appear to be a "box" in danger of falling. You could also wrap that front shed roof around that left side to minimize the "box" look. You could remove and totally change the front porch roof creating a forward facing two story gable that extends forward more. You already have a sloped roof on the right side, just continue that slope to the center of the front entry space and then use the same slope to connect with the roof on the left.
