Frozen (raw) turkey breast question
Comments (4)lou, thanks for the advice. i did in fact cover it for the first couple of hours and what i thought would have been the last 1/2 (but was longer) i cooked uncovered. this particular turkey breast was delicious. came out really nice and moist. i got a great deal the after easter. i was in the parthmark supermarket and they had a case of turkey breasts marked down. what were normally 13 to 15 dollars, the most i paid for one was $3.51. i got 4 of them, cooked one up right away, gave one away and the others i froze. on a whim i thought of making turkey and the whim paid off. wish i had gotten a few more - what a great deal. but i'm content. i had asked the butcher before i put them in my cart why they were so cheap and he told me the new head meat guy thought they were a big seller for easter even though others tried to tell him turkey is normally thanksgiving. seemed a logical explanation to me, so i happily took advantage of the situation. gotta love a great deal. maryanne...See MoreHELP! 6 Days and turkey is still frozen!
Comments (5)This is likely too late for you but . . . just run some warm/tepid water on the inside for a bit. You could start with cold(er) water and then gradually warm it up. You have to wash it out anyway. Do the legs and wings move? Is the body *pushable*? If so -- likely it will be fine. Reduce the liquid content of your dressing just a bit so it doesn't get too soggy. I begin thawing my turkeys 2 days in advance of intended eating, in a covered pan in the garage. Garage at this time of year is refrig cold so it works fine. If I still have some iciness inside Turkin Lurkin, I do as I suggested above. Works for me. :-)) YMMV depending upon your location. Happy T Day...See Morefrozen turkey in crockpot
Comments (12)There are lots of cooking practises that people used to do.... My MIL always left the stuffed cooked turkey on the counter after a 1:00 dinner until about 7 that night. All stomach discomfort was blamed on a "rich meal". I rememberw hen someone had a bright idea to put the turkey into a 125 oven before you went to bed and cook it 12 hours...I did it once.....don't think anyone got sick. And someone here recommended soaking a turkey in warm water for several hours before cooking. The problems are in these days of enormous butchering and packing facilities...one bad bird can contaminate thousands in the scalding tank....so the possible germs on the bird are multiplied many times over. And some bacteria, while they are killed by cooking, leave behind a toxin that is not deactivated by heat. Keep it hot or keep it cold! Comments (15)Whatever size, I always put mine in the frig, and then on Wed AM (or you can do it after work) I take it out and put in a sink of cool water. Empty the water every 30 minutes or so and turn the bird over and fill with cool water again. When the breast and the back feel soft, drain and put in pan in frig overnight. You should be good to go Thursday AM. I usually try to get the giblets out of the body and neck cavity before putting in the frig. You can go ahead and simmer them in water Wednesday night. You can go ahead and do this today and just put in frig until Thursday. Whatever you do do not put the turkey on the counter or in the sink without using the water method. Our grandparents could get away with this, but with our modern turkeys it is not safe....See More- 4 years agolast modified: 4 years ago
