There is no way to see color in someone elses space to decide since monitors distort color and all the other itmes in a space have an effect on color. The best is to make sure all the lighting is the same in the spaces you want to paint I usually like LEDs 4000K but you can go a bit lower to 3500K and still avoid most of the yellow . Then get sample pots of both colors and 2 large poster boards paint each with one color 2 coats . Then move them around at all times of the day . Better yet is to choose a colr when all the main pieces are in the space along with all the lighting you will have. BTW I tell my painters what paint I want.

Patricia Colwell Consulting did hit the nail on the head. You cannot tell what the color will look like in your space until you test it in your space.

One, these colors are highly reflective, so they are bouncing the available light around and you see the color of the light.

Two, we don't see color independent from their surroundings. If you have dark floors this will look far more stark than if you have light floors. If your walls are purple these may look more yellow than you want and if the walls are sunshine yellow these may appear a bit dirty. (Not likely at this LRV, but the colors are dirtier than sunshine yellow).

Thanks so much - both of your comments were super helpful. Patricia, I completely agree about testing the whites, and maybe I should go with Simply White because we hired a colour consultant who came to our place and recommended it. Also I'd bought a sample pot of Simply White and tested it everywhere - we thought it looked good. Unfortunately, due to supply shortages, Sherwin Williams has no sample pots right now, so to test Cheviot I'd have to buy a quart of paint.

On the other hand, I don't know if it's worth paying our painter more to get Simply White when Cheviot seems so similar.... I got a bunch of paint chips of Cheviot and have been trying to test it that way in different lights... It does look slightly warmer than Simply White but otherwise so similar. I think I might prefer the warmth. Also our painter is fine with using the SW Emerald line for no extra cost - that seems like another plus.

Our normal style is kind of like Alvar Aalto's house (https://archeyes.com/the-aalto-house-alvar-aalto/) - lots of wood & warm materials (we have some danish teak) with warm white walls - but we've now moved into a new place which has an existing style that is more ornate/traditional (crown mouldings, heavier trim, lots of built-ins) & the past owners put in stuff like travertine, slate etc. So we're trying to meld the two styles by going with white walls and painting the trim the same colour as the walls.

I think whatever we do will look so much better than the existing paint colours, which are like a baby poop brown everywhere, with cloud white trim which looks super stark against the brown colour.

Anyway - thanks again for your help - it's super appreciated! Jennifer, I think given what you've said, I may take a risk and go for Cheviot. I'll post pictures after it's done - painters are coming on Monday & I'm getting excited for the change.

Just saw - painters are coming on Monday. Can't order before they get there. I would buy a quart of Cheviot to test. If you love it the painters can mix it in with the the gallons they buy, if you decide on Simply white the painters can use the quart inside some of the closets where no one will see it. Worst case scenario, you spend the money for a quart of paint and end up not using it. You can always donate it to a rebuild store or Habitat for Humanity. Without testing you will be going into an expensive project without really knowing if the outcome will be satisfactory. The cost of a quart of paint is far less than having to repaint everything.

Sounds good - thanks - I did that & am going to go with Cheviot! I had tried Samplize earlier, but unfortunately they don't have a sample of Cheviot - maybe because it's a newer colour.

I love Cheviot. I was looking at Simply White but moved toward Cheviot because it feels "soft." I don't want to need sunglasses in this big room. Can't wait to close and move. I will definitely post back here to share this secret color. I can't find anyone using it!!!

The Emerald design colors a very new. Couple that with the expense of the Emerald paint (and they cant make it in their regular paint because tge emerald base is much whiter), yes not many people have tried it yet. Lived tge look of white snow.

I am helping my Dad update his house. Honey oak everything. We are trying Cheviot to see how it does. I’ve only done two walls tonight. The first picture is one wall with a soft white bulb. You can see color swatches as well on the door (left top down pure white, Greek villa, and alabaster while right is Cheviot and whitetail).

It may be a while but once I’m done painting and decorating I’ll try to post a pic with daylight and in the evening again.

Tanya Mur, did you end up using Cheviot? A design consultant for SW recommended it for my kitchen cabinets but I haven’t seen any reviews or photos of anyone who has used it. Looking for validation before I bite the bullet. Please share photos.

Cheviot very nice but BM simply white brighter but soft too cheviot has more warmth prefer simply white it is the perfect milk cream no not yellowy

Painted entire house in Florida Cheviot and it very nice. if you really love BM Simply White like i do, Cheviot is a very close favorite i like BM SImply W for Kitchen Cabs because it is a tad brighter and creamier than Cheviot. these two are so very close and my home in Florida is beautiful looks beautiful with Cheviot on ceilings and walls. My home in Maine has Simply W on an outside enclosed porch and i love sitting in it as does my husband. for a guy, he always comments on the beauty of its paint color Simply W. he is a big fan of it since i started using it in another home on cabinets. we are currently remodeling a condo and decided on Simply W for the walls. love both you cant go wrong!

All Benjamin M Chantilly lace on ceiling Chantilly is a realli bright soft white which goes famously with Simply white according to the designers i agree chantilly L is a bit too white for wall in my opinion i did consider it
