Urgent Need Help With Door Installation !

Hello,

Yesterday I had a new front door installed on my home by a pro door installer. Once installer was gone I noticed that door was crooked and no longer lined up evenly with my inside ceramic tile. Old door lined up perfectly with tile. Now, inside new moulding around door is at different depths (compensation made for something?)…. even depth of brick outside where door was placed is off on either side. Installer has told me door is plump (level) and that house has shifted over the years, so not the door but the house that is at fault. Does this make sense to anyone? Was there a way to make tile line against door straight? Installer is swining by today to discuss, so need your opinions as soon as possible. Thanks!

You didn't notice any of this when you signed off on the work and paid him?

That said, does the door operates properly?... Because it's hard to tell from the pictures, but the old door could have been slightly different in size vs. the new door so he had to adjust the door. Did you put a level on it and check if the new door is level and plumb? This will tell you if the door is out of level or not plumb, etc and that could be the reason why the door is off here and there.

Call the installer back and have him check everything if the door not closing properly.

Actually, you can use an underlayment with click vinyl. It's a different type made by Lumber Liquidators for LVP, which is what we have. I'm not confused about the kind of floor. (I know it was unnecessary, but it made DH feel better about the asbestos underneath, and that was worth $150 to me. Those tiles make him a little crazy. He knows there is no reason. And I know he's being unreasonable. Emotions, by definition, are not rational.) I know the water won't hurt the floor itself. I'm just wondering how urgent the problem is. I essentially have standing water. Good to know that the asbestos won't be hurt by the water (if I'm reading glensfc's post correctly.) I'm also not sure if i am in any danger of damaging the planks by uninstalling. Unfortunately, we got a bunch of damages planks and ended up with no extras. We got them on closeout, and there are no more to be had anywhere.

I also got a Blanco silgranit sink and also had to wonder about the gasket. One way was up but it didn't say. (The gasket was not symmetrical). In the end, I just installed it one way and then turned it around when I saw it leaked. Sorry I don't remember now which way was up and can't help you more than that. I can confirm that I was disappointed in Blanco for this. I called them and got nowhere, so I was disappointed again. I called later about the tailpiece and also got nowhere, so I was disappointed again. I didn't post about it because it all happened too fast. Forums are not good when instant responses are needed. And, the first few responses may not be the right ones you need. Hth

Thanks for the info. It is the K181. It looks as if the spout has several steps on the bottom--which would accomodate different sized holes. The bottom step fits in the spout hole (sort of) for our sink. I just does not go all the way down so that the next "step" rests flat on the surface of the sink. My husband was able to get it attached fairly securely. He also found an escutcheon that fits around the base of the spout (which was in the package, though wasn't listed in the install instructions), so the gap at the bottom is covered. Seems to function properly as installed, with no leaks. So I think we're good to go until we remodel that bathroom. I think those faucets are meant (ideally) to be mounted in a countertop with an undermount sink. It figures that the prettiest faucets are a pain to repair. However, what we had before were made by a company called "Epic" which is which has now gone out of business. We tried unsuccessfully to get compatible parts for the old ones, to no avail. At least Phylrich is still around. Thanks again for your response.

Ok now I see that I have to lift the door out of frame. Grrrr. Half of the middle is stained with a poly stain so it's almost impossible to sand off to make even. Why didn't the Lowes installers explain this stuff to me. arrrrggg, -terri

Absolutely makes sense. How old is your house? My c. 1900 buildings are anything but plumb. My 1971 building is much better, but not perfect.

For some items, such as kitchen cabinets and flooring, you can adjust the new installs to match the settlement. But for doors to operate properly they must be plumb and level.
