When does rhubarb emerge?
Comments (15)Sorry, I should have said stalks. What I meant was that you eat the above-ground parts, not the roots, so applying manure now when the parts you eat are going to be harvested soon is not considered safe, since the manure will be in contact with them. I didn't know if they needed high N fert right now (even if you're not eating leaves ;-)) hence my offer of the fish emulsion, or just a balanced fertilizer. I use manure and compost, fish emulsion (don't have much for grass clippings), leaf mold at my house - I know she and her father start in MG so suppose she wouldn't mind me using that if a liquid "water-in" type fert was needed. I'm not sure the last time goat manure/bedding was put in the garden - may have been tilled in last spring....See MoreLifespan of Aster Monch
Comments (3)I may have lost mine. Like yours, it was really nice for several years. This spring (March) it started up when we had three weeks of nice weather, then it nipped off when we had our 19 degree wind chill 7 degree with strong winds 24/7 . Her roots are alive but I don't think it has the engery to start up again. This one blooms it fool head off and it may not store even engery to take the hit it did. I've left her in the ground, but my balloon flowers and hibiscus are well on their way up so it's not looking good for the aster....See MoreRhubarb : How much water does it need?
Comments (3)My grandparents grew it, and then my parents, when they took over the house. We never made it into pies. We just cut it up, boiled it with water and sugar, til it was an applesauce consistency. Then just ate it like that. It could be served over pound cake or angel food cake if you needed to dress it up. My Danish grandmother prepared a lot of fruits the same way. She called it âÂÂcramâÂÂ. As in, âÂÂBlackberry cramâÂÂ, or âÂÂRhubarb cram.â I have so idea what cram meansâ¦but IâÂÂm guessing sauce. I donâÂÂt have a recipe: when I finally have some to harvest, IâÂÂll wing it....See MoreLifespan of asphalt driveway-- redo vs overlay?
