IMO this house style does not suit a porch so I guess for me it wouldn't matter about the gables . Why a porch at all. IMO this is anice ranch not a cottage or something more traditional Remove those shutters they are all wrong , new windows with no grids and the a walkway to the actual front door since right now who knows where it is.I usually like awalkway from the street to the front door but I can't tell from the pic exactly what your lot looks like. I do not see any pic of what you are thinking so maybe post that inspiration pic .

I agree a porch doesn't suit your home. Also you need a designer before a builder. If it is on the main highway why would you want a porch? Your inspiration isn't much of a porch more like a large overhang. Your facade is very appealing now. I would remove the shutters, black won't help. Shutters should look like they will cover the windows if closed. Yours are too skinny. Paint just the door black and remove the grilles. Then landscaping will help a great deal/

The house doesn't need a porch, or shutters, but you do need some landscape help.

It looks like you have intersecting hip roofs which is why a porch like you're thinking of (and like what is shown on your inspiration photo) won't work. For the sake of appearance, think about the suggestions offered above, and definitely landscape, landscape, landscape. Whatever money you were planning on spending on the porch will be much better spent on plantings. You have none right now. Plantings can also help buffer you from the busy street. A lot of people on busy streets do a berm in front with a wide variety of plantings that grows into a green wall that is very attractive.

You could just do the porch over the right side, or just in front, similar to this

but on the left portion where the roof changes, what about a type of arbor?

BTW, if you could redo your landscaping like either of these, it would look so much better

adding a large flagstone path down the middle, w/plantings on the side, would do a huge favor to your curb appeal. even if it goes down to the road, it can still be done.

I'm sure the garden design folks would have some ideas for you.

We plan to landscape after we figure out a porch situation. They said that because of the circled corner that adding a roof would be difficult since this is the main gable in the roof. Their words not mine. I found the second pictures as maybe inspiration.

I do like your arbor idea for over the transition of the roof area Beth.

I think a porch on the back of the home would be more useful. Not really necessary for the front, unless you think will you sit/entertain out there.

I have a back porch. I want a front porch. I just need help for the design of it.

The house is quite lovely as is. You could always add more landscaping and a seating area out front with pavers. That would be nice.

I would add the bulk of money where you will enjoy it most. For me that would mostly be in backyard where more private and quiet.
