I'd try to match the handrail with other woodwork in the house, not the floor. Think of the treads as floor and the railing as trim. I don't have pictures but my last home had lightish oak floors (and stair treads) but the rails, balusters, moulding, stringers, door trim, picture rails, etc., were all very dark something. Of course new homes usually don't have dark wood trim, and painted is more common and not a great choice for a rail. You might have to take inspiration from other things you have. Anyway, unless you have one of those houses from the 80s where everything that can possibly be wood is light oak, there is absolutely no reason to make your railing the same as the treads.

I don't have a picture, but our floors are white oak with a clear finish. Our handrails are red oak, with a mahogany stain and amber shellac finish. The handrails are attached to the walls with black wrought iron brackets. Our handrails match the baseboard molding in the staircase and throughout the house...all stained. We're very happy with how it looks.

Jennifer -- It's difficult for me to talk price point, as usually folks want to discuss pricing in comparison with other brands, features, etc.* Perhaps veteran KDs Jakuval and Kompy can chime in, as they're well versed and are themselves Showplace dealers. However, I've read/heard that for a semi-custom line, SP is very well priced for the customization one can request. Our cabinets were installed in mid-August, and we aren't finished with this part of the kitchen reno yet, sadly. So far, though, no complaints in terms of durability of materials/surfaces/finishes -- given the kitchen is seeing pretty light use. We've experienced QC issues with drawer widths (within the same stack) being off by 1/8" -- very visible to the eye. And a couple of the drawers don't close all the way, sticking out ~ 1/4" in front of the drawer above/below it. I'm told by our KD that it's usually the dealer side who should make these adjustments, but the GC who was assigned to finish the task has been to the kitchen twice to address these (and other) issues, and has left both times saying nothing can be done. Feeling rather caught in the middle, and there's lots of silence all the way around. Being passed around, and I'm not sure who I'm "allowed" to talk to any more. But, I digress. So, if you're interested, you'll first need to make sure there's a Showplace dealer near you who knows the product line well. (If you live near Kompy or Jakuvall and can avail yourself of their expertise, lucky-lucky!). Go in and check out their display. There is only one other SP dealer in our area (Houston, so BIG city!) -- when I called them, just to see if they had other SP vignettes on display, they said they didn't...that customers just came in and ordered, sight unseen. Ummmm...what?! Before I found these cabinets, KD also showed me an Ultracraft finish that was just as nice (Storm Gray), but it didn't come in maple. The alder looked very nice, but I didn't want such a soft wood for kitchen cabinets. The Storm Gray on the red birch looked to red. But it's worth checking out: you really need to borrow their sample doors and view them in your kitchen. BTW, related to a current post about cabinets being much darker than the door sample, I believe the SP samples had dates on the back of them, with a disclaimer that the washes/stains on the samples can fade over time. So, make sure you're getting a 'current' one. *All that said, and FWIW, we purchased: (2) 36w 3-drawer stacks; (1) 19w 2-drawer (1) 22" 3-drawer; (1) 36" sink cabinet; (1) 27" 3-drawer, (2) 33w uppers; (2) 15w uppers; one 96"h universal appliance cabinet (microwave + oven stacked); (1) 39w over fridge cab; 36x60" island, with a 3-drawer stack + standard cabinet -- all soft close, Blum hardware, full access/height doors (for island and sink), full access drawers = ~$21,000 (gulp!).

I wouldn't get carried away with too much blue. Use the navy in pillows, artwork, OR rug. Otherwise I would look for beiges/creams/tans in a variety of textures for your furniture. I agree with others that darker woods will look great in your space, similar to your floor lamp. This example shows the one blue chair with lighter furniture, a rug similar to your floor color, and darker wood end tables.
