Comments (40)Sorry to hear about your heat problems. My parents called me yesterday, however, and told me they are expecting a cool front to come in. I asked DF how cool, and he said that instead of 106° (like the past few days), it was supposed to cool down to 95°. They only use the air conditioner in one room, and so one of them was watching TV while I was trying to talk with the other one. I guess they are trying to cut down on electric bill. Are you going to get the same cool front? In my new house I have to A/C (although I have a unit from my old house that I could install), and so far I haven't needed it. The new house has windows on all four sides, and with the open plan, cool breezes easily find their way through the whole house - plus the bedrooms all have ceiling fans. I can't handle Texas in the summer after living here. I expect relatives to come to visit by early August to escape some of the heat. We're on water rationing here also, but can have the sprinklers on two days a week and no restrictions on watering by hand with a hose. I discovered yesterday that my back yard faucet needs to have a part replaced, but it's minor. I have a much nicer lawn now than I did before but not as nice trees. There's one that I really want to replace, but that will have to wait. Did you ever get the heliconia seeds I sent you to grow? They can handle heat and don't need that much water, unlike ginger, which needs lots of water. I've been to New Orleans in June (What was I thinking?) and know how oppressive the heat is in southern Louisiana - it's pretty much the same climate as Houston with severe humidity. If you can swing it, take a trip up to Canada - it's quite lovely this time of year and I miss it! Lars...See MoreHow Long Of A Close Would You Accept... Am I Being Unreasonable?
Comments (31)I agree that the sellers don't have to move twice--but were I the buyer, I wouldn't want to move twice either. That doesn't mean one side or the other is wrong, but it may mean that this is not the deal. We saw our place on Super Bowl Sunday, made a bid about a week and a half later, and closed on August 1st (w/ a rent-back for 3 days). The sellers needed time to find a buy a house; we weren't getting married until September anyway but could have moved sooner if we'd wanted or needed to. There may be a buyer out there for this house who is willing to wait for the closing. The sellers may decide that this offer is good enough, and they'll change their mind about the closing date. Comments (30)SAS, the attitude you describe is, in my experience, prevalent in the ID business. It seems a lot of folks have trouble reconciling the concept of luxury goods and value (maybe this means most luxury goods are poor value!). I also agree with the OP that it is the principle more than the cost. Nothing enrages me more than the sense that people are ripping me off "because they can". I've told the story before about the guy who quoted an AV system for our house. First he kept asking if I wasn't sure that I wanted every kid to have an AV system (I am totally sure, mister ... I don't want AV zombies). Then, when he gave me the quote, I asked him (perfectly nicely, I promise) some clarifying info about the pricing. He declined to answer and then withdrew his quote! Ahh the cast of clowns and criminals that one had to deal with in this industry! That said, IDs do hold the keys to all of the "to the trade" goodies, which I personally could not decorate without. Moreover, they do know the rudiments of scale and traffic flow and have a sense of color. I have picked some of that up but still need help with it. Lastly, a really good ID knows where to find good labor and how to manage it......See MoreBackslash - Am I being unreasonable?
Comments (66)Romy, They are the nicest crackle tiles I have seen. The saleswoman said she would NOT order me silver, as too often came with blue tones. The Cameo is on the other board, and has a green undertone. It is definitely not yellow, nor are my countertops (predominantly grey). I'm not sure it is best match for my cabinets, and if I can figure out how to get some decent photos, I'll post separately. I just love the crackle over the glass tiles I've been shown. If I could do it all again, I'd shop BS first, and then find a quartz countertop that lets the BS shine. In your last picture, the silver looks dark, and I know it isn't. It is truly lovely. What I have learned from you is that I will order several extra sheets. If some tiles look too dark/off color, I can have extras to replace....See MoreFori
