Remodeling Design Dilemma Fireplaces

Any ideas of what I can do to this fireplace?

I hate our fireplace. I want to make it more modern. Making it the way I want will cost $3000+ which isn’t worth it in my opinion. I’m considering getting the left side of it demoed (it’s costing me $800). What can I do to make it look more modern? Should I paint it gray?

First picture is of my fireplace. The red line is where I want to demo. The second picture is my dream fireplace.

Cladding it in drywall then covering in a stone slab is 3K? What is your fireplace now? It appears to be Carrera bricks. I would demo the mantle and hearth..those bricks look cheap compared to the field. Then finish the right side...but the brick is neutral as is, painting it gray (ish) will make it really scream LOOK AT ME. Can you have that unusual box cover made up and painted up? That's a statement of its own.

Remember that if you demo that section of the fireplace, you will be missing flooring there. Do you have some of the tile?

There are pluses and minuses. I have slept in '80s brass beds, 1880s brass beds, and a more modern wrought iron bed. Here are some things to think about. - Metal beds originally became popular as a precaution against bedbugs. Bedbugs hide in wood furniture, so if you get an infestation simply replacing the mattress won't suffice. For most of my life, bedbugs were a quaint old affliction remembered only in good-night sayings. However, they are now back in a big way. If you travel at all, your luggage can carry bedbugs from a hotel (even a very nice hotel) right back to your own bed. If so, you may have to treat or replace the mattress but at least your bed will be easy to sanitize. - You need to plan out where your head goes. Banging your skull on metal is unpleasant. That means you need good-sized pillows for sleeping and extra fluffage for reading. And yes, pillows do have a tendency to slip behind the bed. - I found it pleasant to touch the cool metal with my hands when I was warm in bed. It sounds like nothing, but it actually made a difference in comfort . - By all means get a well-made bed if you go metal. Cheap metal beds flex and move and bend even more than cheap wooden ones. A poorly made bed will make you feel like you are sleeping in a lifeboat on open seas.

Wood actually isn't the least durable option, as long as you pick the right wood. Pressure treated pine will deteriorate quickly, but a hardwood like ipe or cumaru can last 50-75 years.

Congratulations on your cute home. First I would paint garage a bit darker than your home. Trellis and foliage on the left of garage and right front left wall where there is not a window. Not exactly what I have inserted in photo but a visual to get the idea. Bench in front of entrance middle window with flower pot. Cannot see the entrance door very well to give you advice. Landscaping edge of driveway with flowers or landscaping to follow the eye to your home. Hire a landscape designer to help with landscaping if this is something you do not want to do. Very reasonable and great exterior design solutions. Best of Luck.

I think it looks great with your decor as is. I don’t see how doing demo on the one side will really change it much. It has a fresh, modern look now, I’d spend that money on something else.

if it doesnt work as a fireplace and just holds a plant, get rid of it altogether. just food for thought.

Otherwise, I think styling and maybe 2 strips of wood could really help here.

Doesn't appear the facing would be hard to demo yourself. The expense is the cast surround. There's no way to get around that cost.

I would look for a beautiful wood cabinet the size of that rise. (The cabinet is too large, but you can see how wood pieces with a lot of character can enhance a modern room.) Natural elements near a fireplace add so much to a room. If you get the wood piece, fill the firebox with chunky wood logs. Maybe add a more dramatic art work as well.
