Need small, armless office chair for computer

Now that I've ruined my spine with poor posture at the computer, I want to buy a small adjustable chair with support. When I worked at the newspaper I was fine with what I think was called a 'steno chair' -- a seat and separate back that each adjusted separately. I don't care about 'fancy'. I'm not even 'rolling around' on this.

I use a pull-out shelf within the library bookcase for my laptop, but may decide to add a larger monitor. I push the chair to the side when I close up the pull-out.

When Alisande was looking for an office chair she went to Office Depot and tried them ALL out. Then she purchased a La-Z-boy, told us what a deal she got...and several of us purchased the same chair. ☺

If you've got your mind made up re:desk, then you should have it. My space is only about 3' deep, and w/a chair, I would have been sitting in the doorway~~I took the door off and have a curtain panel on each side. There's a ceiling light, but I also hung wall lamps on each side wall for more direct lighting when using the computer. I have them about 8" from the top of the desk/shelf. I've also hung a large bulletin board on the back wall, with a few wall accessories/family photos. Oh, I didn't mentioned I painted the closet black, including the ceiling~~it makes for a very cozy space, as well as a topic of conversation. ;o)

(Apache) Open Office is a foundering project that may be about to end. Development and security efforts are reportedly grinding to a halt, not for the first time. Libre Office branched off of Open Office a few years ago. It has a very active development effort and is quite similar to OO since a few years ago the starting point was the same. Google Docs is an excellent replacement for Microsoft Office too. For the average user, there really is no "best choice". When the small numbers of things that are different and menu locations become familiar, the same utility is provided by any of them. Each of these alternatives, and a few others, will provide similar programs and capabilities and can use file formats compatible with MS Office.

- I would empty it out, donating or throwing away what you don't need - Keep the curtains bc you will need relief from the glare - Set up a work station with a desk/table - Get a desk lamp and floor lamp - In the short term, run an extension cord/surge protector into the room for your computer set-up, you can also add a fan or 2 for relief from the heat (there are portable AC units that would be a good investment at some point)

What is draining you is the lack of ventilation. If you can't'open a window, you should have several HEPA or MERV air purifiers in there. The very quietest and most effective air purifiers you can get are from Clean Air Kits. If you are willing to assemble them yourself (10 minutes) they cost less than the purifiers that come pre-assembled for you. I paid $125. It's very pretty, very comfortable...my husband has it in his office.

I spend a LOT of time on the computer, both for work and for hobbies. I've found that with computer chairs, you often get what you pay for. I "borrowed" my chair from work when I went remote (with permission) because I love it so much and it retails for about $800. It's lasted 12+ hours a day for 4 years now and still looks brand new.

I'm avidly reading this as I've tried a couple of chairs (Costco, Staples,) that are very uncomfortable for me. Unfortunately, it's difficult to try most chairs as they're only available online. Chi, I'm sure you are correct in that you get what you pay for in a chair! Would you care to tell us what brand yours is?

I bought a used office chair last winter from a place that purchases large lots from corp offices who upgrade regularly. With all the remote work happening, you may find lots more choices than in the past. My chair was originally in that $800-900 range and I got it for under $100.

I bought mine from TJMaxx this past summer, it’s small and light with a simple design, black faux leather . it was only $79.99. I saw a few at Home Goods not long ago.
