You know you're an obsessive gardener when...
Comments (29)Oh my gosh, you are all so funny! I feel so much better now knowing I am not alone. I went to the nursery yesterday to return a plant I wasn't happy with and came out much poorer. It was a trap. Easy returns but you're still going to pay! I have the stuff rolling around in the back of my truck. I'm hiding it from you-know-who. :) Just to keep things straight, I really am not a hoarder. I just tend to get a little carried away periodically. Many, many thanks to those in the military past and present. I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday. It looks like its going to be great gardening/BBQ weather here today....See MoreHave you inspired anyone to join you in your lawn obsession?
Comments (26)A bit harsh? rutgers1 is most likely 100% correct, but I never pull any punches and am blunt. Seeing that this is a DIY (do it yourself) forum and the actual nature of the thread, - "Have you inspired anyone to join you in your lawn obsession?" many of gbig2's comments, I find very pretentious, aloof and pompous, which prompted my reply. "What makes you think you can landscape your own house? You can't!" "why would you nickel and dime the landscaping for it by trying to do it yourself?" "Pick up the phone and call an expert, PLEASE!" -Maybe they like doing it themselves? Maybe they are proud of what they did! "I'm sorry but going to home depot and spending $400 on a couple plants and trees is not landscaping! " -Maybe they LIKE what they bought at Home Depot? Maybe they are proud of what they bought! "My neighbor who didn't take the above advice, [****hiring an expert, I assume?****] put in two front beds himself (not raised beds, he decided to put in slightly below grade beds, lol) -Instead of now laughing at him so pompously, maybe some neighborly hands-on help would have been nice? "it looks so bad that some day I may have to pull the weeds myself." -This statement is not condescending? "it's a mistake (that I almost made years ago) to try to do it yourself, hire a professional" - This statement is not supercilious? "I went from not knowing what KBG was or TTTF was [snip] to now, completely renovating with KBG" - So I must ask ... did you DIY or hire a professional?...See MoreAre you so obsessed with anything you'd barter your services?
Comments (21)That pic is epic. I have a great pic of DH and I at the height of the 80's big hair/mullet. My hair is at least 5" taller than my head, he's got the mullet to beat. We were the hottest couple in our town back then. Even today, when I see the pic of DH and his Def Leppard hair, I swoon. From kitchen reno (frighteningly...in 1988, DH had hair just like Joe, in the center...mine was like the guy to 2nd on the right) And, yeah, we've always bartered our work/services for others. We've learned the hard way, to charge retail price for our product when trading, because we often don't get the same deal. For example, recently DH was going to trade a unique stone bench that retails for $400 and the guy wanted to give us a half cord of wood, because DH said he'd take $100 cash for it, since that is wholesale price. We've noticed that a lot of traders want to give us retail or contractor rates for our wholesale, so we now do trade at that rate, cash at another....See MoreFun thread: What is your current kitchen related obsession?
Comments (74)Mine longtime kitchen obsession has been vintage cookware from the 50s or older. I have a lot of Guardian Service cookware. I love that the stuff is practically bombproof. At the thrift store the other day I found an ancient but still perfectly workable Presto 4 qt pressure cooker. The hammered texture on the lid caught my eye. It has beautiful wood handles too. I love that I can still get gaskets and overpressure plugs for it which I did because while the ones it had were serviceable they looked a little old. I also found a manual for it. Using some common sense and some internet research, it's incredibly easy to use. Since then I have experimented with making a few dishes in it. French onion soup is awesome in it and beans come out creamy textured. Presoaking gets better results though if in a hurry I can start from dry. Seasonings get right into the beans instead of staying in the broth. I am looking for a big oldie so i can use it at the next chili cook-off!...See Moreflowersaremusic z5 Eastern WA
