Ugh, my comment did not read like I intended it to read. Sorry, pilarfish6. That is what happens when your dogs are asking for treats while you are on the computer! Hee hee hee. Picture this request: feed me, feed me, feed me because I am meeeelting... Ha! You gotta love them! Yes, you will have blooms by September. But Limelight first produces blooms with a lime color, which then turns white and finally, the blooms add a mix of pinks and-or greens as the blooms further mature. If your intention is to provide lime green blooms only, or white blooms only or late colors from late blooms then it becomes difficult to get the colors timed precisely. When the wedding comes, for example, the lime greens may have turned white or be transitioning to white and be a mix of colors. Or the white ones may have started getting blotches of green or pink. Sorry about that being unclear in the previous note. Mea culpa.

There are so many varieties of panicle hydrangea now, in addition to limelight and little lime. These are an unnamed variety from a grower here in east Texas - they only get about 6 hours of full sun, but they really responded to this cold winter. The flowers age kind of pinkish then dry nicely for arrangments. We've also had good luck with the smooth hydrangeas (h. arborescens) such as Annabelle in similar condition, actually in the same bed - these might be 'Incrediball' - I have to wait till fall to climb in to see the tags. We did plant them on the east side of some taller shrubs (viburnum 'Opening Day' and 'Rosalinda' Indian hawthorn, which is recovering from last winter's freeze) to provide some afternoon relief from the hot sun.

You can leave them for winter interest or deadhead them. Either is fine. I normally let Mother Nature take care of spent blooms but she forgets about some of them sometimes and I end up cutting a few here and there in Spring. So, do as you like.

I would likely plant it about 5’-6’ from the edge of the yard about half way back towards the house, preferably in a planting bed with other shrubs, perennials, or ground covers. This is a large, full plant, typically somewhere near 10’ Tall and wide within 10 years, and it isn’t easy to control size with pruning because it regrows quickly every year but often is floppier with more pruning due to large, heavy bloom heads. You don’t want it where it will interfere with sight lines to the road from the driveway, so not near the road or even close to the sidewalk. You also don’t likely want it marooned by itself in the middle of the lawn or blocking sight lines to the front door.
