I haven't tried it but I've been plastic wrapping my tubers for many years with great success. Recently I've also wrapped some in aluminum foil with with similar results. Sealing them with the sticky wrap may not be the best idea since gases which form during storage should have an avenue of escape. One of my dahlia buddies tried vacuum sealing one year and lost them all to rot. Let us know how you make out.

What I thought was an easy answer is not so easy. When I learned about gardening zones in the 1960s, we used the maps in Sunset Western Garden Book which was our gardening "bible". The zones are called: Sunset's Climate Zones. According to them we here in the Portland, Oregon area are in Zone 6. But the USDA has a a different system called the USDA Hardiness Zones. According to their charts we are in zone 8a. But again there is another chart called the AHS Heat Zones that tracks how hot you get in the summer. They count days above 86 degrees F. We are in zone 4 for that one. I still like the Sunset's Climate Zones because they take into account both cold and heat. We typically have a few days over 100 degrees and about 20 days over 90 degrees. We seldom go lower than 10 degrees in the Winter and in a typical year the lowest temp is about 15. Our last Spring frost date with about 95% probability is May 1st. In the last 22 years at my location, the latest killing Spring frost has been April 22nd. In the Fall we typically have a killing frost about October 31st. This year we went well into November without any frost. That is the long answer to your short question.

(Just a gentle reminder that correctly labeling varieties is really important when trading. ) I started with a dozen store-bought junk tubers, and ended up with over fifty the next year, then 100 the next, then 200 the next... careful- the dahlia addict is born through trading! Ha Ha! I've found that 300 varieties is the absolute top to keep my sanity intact.

Popmama, I have tried everything for storing dahlias! Frustrating when you are always hearing people say, "It's so easy." Regardless of what people say for how to prepare them: if you don't have the right temperature, it won't work. I have had more success with tuberous begonias. But even with those I have transitioned to storing in their pots. You can often buy a hanging basket full of tuberous begonias fairly inexpensively. The tubers in those are very small and they would never survive digging and storing. I chuck the whole basket into my sump pump closet - the coldest spot in the house - once it is dry. I start checking in March: once I see little nubbins emerging, they come upstairs into the warmth and light. raee, I will try storing the glads in the basement. I was afraid they might get desiccated.
