Buy now or buy later

My GE Profile refrigerator & stove will be 16 years old in Jan. The stove inside light no longer works & I admit I gouged the front electric burner when cleaning a tough spill. All the burners work & the oven heats. The refrigerator freezer will go up to 8 or 10 degrees sometimes randomly for a day & go back to zero again. This happens every month or two. Does it make sense to shop & buy now backordered appliances since it is so hard to get goods these days? I'm picky about the brands I will consider. I want a convection oven this time & I need to have a water dispenser on the fridge. If I have to just "take what I can get" once one of them stops working I will be very unhappy with my purchase. Does it make sense to just buy now? I figure the most I will get out of these appliances is MAYBE another 5 years.

Unless you really need an appliance I don't think it's a good time to buy one. By ordering now, you'd be locking in a current, high price. I'd wait for the supply-chain problems to ease. How much have prices gone up? I bought an LG LSE4617ST range on November 24, 2020 for $2804. That range is now $3699 (+32%) at the same seller.

I have spent so much time on GW asking for advice and after much research AND because I spent so much time asking for help here and it took me so long to decide AND my DH would go crazy if I changed my mind, I am still going to go with the GE Monogram DBL ovens. I love the glide racks and knobs and it just seems to have everything I want, except convection conversion. Also, my DH says not to worry about the GE auction, buy-out, merger, whatever it ends up to be and I trust him...hope he's right! Good luck.

a good answer would require a crystal ball. I guess my first question would be "are you happy living in an apartment?" and "what would be different?" You only mention the negatives so my thought is that you don't want to do this and so you shouldn't. On the other hand I can't think of anyone who was sorry they made the move to buy a house. With interest rates so favorable I would think you could do quite well for just the price of renting. I have known quite a number of people who bought mobile homes or condos who were sorry because they were so hard to get out from under, but not one who was sorry they bought a stick built single home.

Most likely, prices will get better as the weather cools and demand drops. However - there could be a raw materials increase that offsets that, or even raises prices overall. Your call.
