dan - what makes you think they have a 50 amp anything there? saydee - what kind of box is there? A correct box for 220v should easily accommodate the 14-30r. Miele will almost surely not advise you to shorten the cord, will probably mention warranty. If you allowed 23" depth it should fit 7' and all. Some of that sits on top of the oven. If you/ he decides to shorten it, email me. I think it's funny that he expected one thing, but found another. In all fairness, I almost always have to look in a book when a NEMA xx-xx is called for, there are several dozen configs. I also can't tell you how many electricians get beet red on install day at jobs we don't manage when I show them the spec sheet, the install manual , and the email from us telling them EXACTLY how to prepare for this appliance or that. Bla, bla, bla this ain't our first rodeo really stings when it's flung right back at you in front of the contractor, other trades and/or the homeowner. Moral - read and understand the specifications for your appliances before install day and don't throw away the manual the second it comes out of the box! BTW - what older oven did you have that had a plug on the end of it? Very few have them out of the box and the NEC doesn't allow you add a plug to an appliance "whip" as far as I know. In fact Miele is the only one I know of that does.

Fortunately, I have a relatively large pantry (vs. a much smaller kitchen). So when I got the Miele Speed oven, I just moved my old Sharp microwave and my ancient, beloved, toaster oven into the pantry. Now, about 8 months after the remodel, I still use the toaster oven for toast, having never even tried to toast in the Miele. And the pantry's microwave gets used to do something quick (like melt butter) while the Miele is pre-heating, or baking, or whatever. Though these things only happen occasionally, its been often enough that I haven't seen my way to tossing out either old oven. The drawback, of course, is that there are 5 ovens in my little kitchen/pantry area, which seems excessive. And I suppose the pantry has less counter space for canned beans or whatever... As for the Miele's combination mode, I've only begun to explore this by using it to reheat things like casseroles -- Alton Brown's "Cauliflower Say Cheese", last night. Master Chef expects me to know how much these things weigh, which is a struggle, but last night's guess turned out just fine. Oh yeah, if you select Defrost mode, the Miele speed oven will heat in the range of 75 to 125 degrees. This setting is useful for cooking "raw" foods at 104. I did think about a steam oven as well, but there really was no way to fit it in there.

This is why we decided to go ahead and do a convection oven below the combi-steam oven. It's sort of hard to add one at a later date if we realize that we need it. We were going to put our countertop microwave in the pantry but decided to go ahead and get a microwave drawer since there was space for it. It's a bit far from the other appliances so we won't run into the different colored stainless issues people ask questions about.

AVOID MIELE RANGES. UNRELIABLE UNITS. TERRIBLE SERVICE. We've had Miele dishwashers for literally decades; they have been great, trouble-free performers. Not so the 36" gas range that we bought for a kitchen reno in 2016. The design is nice and the basic functionality is great, but the reliability is the absolute pits. MIele released this line of products before they were ready for prime time. And Miele knows it. We have had burners replaced several times for ignition failures. Last time around the technician replaced all six burners with "upgrades" (I'm guessing, redesigns that cure the faults of the original burners). The little part that detects when the oven door is closed and shuts off the broiler if it's open? It melted when the (extremely hot) broiler was on for more than a few minutes. The rubber feet for the grates constantly disintegrate; we've gone through literally a dozen of them. And now that our unit is out of warranty, Miele wants $32 each for replacements (and there are no aftermarket parts available anywhere). The latest problem is the oven door latch mechanism, which has failed so that the unit will not go into self-clean mode. Making matters worse, Miele's service operation was gutted during the pandemic and has not recovered. Their call center is offshore somewhere, and the people are clueless about the products. As for the technician dispatch in NJ ... don't get me started. Totally dysfunctional. The techs themselves are highly competent ... when you can actually get someone to come. Constant scheduling screwups, technicians not being told what parts to bring, several week lead times, etc. Their service is beyond unacceptable for a premium-priced brand. And we have yet to find a third-party repair service that will work on Miele ranges (dishwashers yes, ranges no). I'm sorely tempted to throw the thing out and go with Blue Star or Wolf. AVOID.
