how do I conceal an uneven 'bulkhead' over my cabinets?
Comments (5)Picture? Does the soffit extend beyond (in front of) the cabinets? Is is made of drywall? You probably don't want to hear this but.... You could rehang the cabs--instead of butting up to the soffit on the low end, rehang the cabs with 1/2'' space (enough space to slip a strip of drywall horizontally into the gap, resting on the tops of the cabinets.) Work your way along the run, shimming the drywall to the cabinet tops. Once you've done that & have it attached with some combination of glue & screws, then attach a vertical strip of drywall to the front of soffit... Essentially, you would be applying a drywall 'veneer' to the existing soffit--or, sorta' like installing a door jamb into a rough opening. If you can post a pix, with more information maybe I can think of some other way to tackle to this....See MoreTo keep or get rid of bulkhead above cabinets?
Comments (17)Ever since I've had my kitchen remodeled, I'm not happy with the gaps between the stove & countertops but when some of my friends/family see it, they say it's no big deal. I know I'm picky but how would some of you feel if this happened to you? I have about 1/2" gap on either side of the stove after the granite was installed. The cutout for the stove was 30 1/2" and I have read where it should only be 30". I feel that my GC allowed this mistake as the granite people say they just install the granite flush with the cabinets. It would be a lot of work and money to have another piece of granite cut and installed and possibly messing up my new cabinets and walls in the process. I guess what I'm asking is...has this happened to anybody else and if so, how was it handled? I'm just torn about this. It's really upsetting when you have a visual look in your mind about how something should look and then it doesn't. The GC did not say that this was a mistake but I've read alot about the specs for the opening and they all say 30". I bought those gap fillers [t strips] and they don't look all that great. Any suggestions would be appreciated....See MoreCustom cabinets: industry standard for drawer box - cabinet back gap?
Comments (0)Is there an industry standard for the gap between the back of a drawer box and the back wall of a cabinet? We had custom cabinets made for several rooms. Most of the cabinets have a 2-2.5" gap, measured between the back edge of the drawer box and the front edge of the cabinet back. However, one set of cabinets has a gap of almost 4.5" measured the same way. Is that normal? This gap makes the drawers very shallow. All cabinets have backs - none are open to the wall behind them. Our shops do not indicate drawer depth on any cabinet. However, I feel like I need to have something concrete to tell the cabinet shop before asking them to redo the drawer boxes to be consistent with their other work....See MoreKitchen Bulkhead / Soffit Doesn't Line Up with Cabinets
Comments (6)just leave it...a 3 walled kitchen..is the yellow affecting your existence there so much? It looks clean, generous in size, etc. The yellow is bold, not a typical pick but it's a statement and the space would lack much character if it were white paint. The soffit issue is there but the cabinets are set up in a decent way , considering. Get some brown/white patterned floor mats to balance it out and add a little soft feel. Maybe he'd give you a bamboo shade or wood look blind at the window. It's fine...just cook and have your friends by , etc....See MoreHU-187528210
