furniture for in removed bathtub space.

I removed a tub in our master bath and could not make the shower any larger. What can I put in the empty aprox space. A bench is kind of cliche. Would it be weird to put a chair there and a basket for towels. We are missing the side of the tub to sit on.

I love having a chair or bench in the bathroom to sit on...you need a place to dry your feet! :)

Do you need a dressing table? Place to put on make up?

I have a marble topped wood bureau. Put whatever you'd like! Chairs are nice; i recall someone who upholstered one in white terry

You should have enough space to have a tub and a shower, depending on the size of vanities, placement of doors, whether you need a toilet enclosure and where the existing plumbing is located. It may be tight, esp. if you want a decent sized shower. Moving the toilet is a PITA. The more plumbing you keep in its original spot, the cheaper it will be. For a quick and dirty (and free) mock up you can use the arrange-a-room tool at BHG. First you specify your room size (unfortunately, their minimum room size is 8 feet by 8 feet, so you'll have to specify a room size of 11 by 8 and ignore one foot of it). Then you pick from among a variety of plumbing fixtures (look in furniture and select bathroom. You'll find toilets, sinks, vanities, corner and regular showers and tubs, etc.). You can also add windows and doors (look in architectural items) You can rotate all of the fixtures, specify sizes, etc. by clicking on info once you drag the fixtures into the room. The program allows you to save, retrieve and print out up to 25 designs. Nothing too sophisticated, but it's easy and it does the trick. Here is a link that might be useful: arrange a room

Hi, The gasket you describe is pretty standard it is placed between the tub and overflow pipe with the tappered side up. If the overflow doesn't leak when you run water into it then let sleeping dogs lay and rest easy if it leaks then change the gasket. Good Luck Woodbutcher

Well I didn't realize this was a 4 yr old post until I read Angela's post. I have a similar situation to Angela. I actually do love baths, but never do the Jacuzzi. In my last house when we redid the master bathroom I replaced the jacuzzi with a soaking tub ( no motor). In this house which is a townhouse, we do have a full bath upstairs with a bath so I don't feel that I need to have a bathtub in our master bath. The Master Bathroom is not super large but it's decent sized. I have been trying to figure out what to do with the area that the tub is. It is also against 2 windows . We want to enlarge the shower and either have 2 vanities or a larger vanity. I really don't want to replace the tub with another one. I had thought of a bench as "filler" but not sure. I am beginning to think of shifting the toilet over there and maybe a cabinet. In any case, I am curious to see ideas discussed here as we are trying to figure it all out.

The overwhelming majority of demographics for your complex would prefer a great shower versus a mediocre tub/shower. Aging people who want to age in place need a shower - and as large as possible because stepping over a tub becomes increasingly problematic. Design with both function (bench and as many grab bars as possible to be reachable anywhere in the shower). While many older people are nimble up to a certain point, there are also periods when they might not be able to bathe and among my senior friends many have given up baths even if they previously enjoyed them because of difficulty of getting up from the tub. While you might lose a buyer who absolutely demands a tub in the master, the greater number will appreciate a great shower. And, if someone really wants a tub experience as critical, chances are they would prefer a larger soaking experience versus a tub/shower combo which doesn't provide the best experience for bathing or showering.

Following along. I keep thinking of just not replacing the tub when we remodel our Master bathroom, and have only come up with the idea of a bench or cabinet

For mine, the issue is that there is a double window on one side of the tub, and a single window at one end. The double window is the front of the house and we are in a townhouse.

I did this in MIL’s bath in our home. She had a sentimental armoire, so we used it, and a chair (outdoor wicker). She always put her robe on it before her shower, then sat to dry her legs and feet, and then put her robe on. I don’t find it weird at all!!

I was just at a neighbor’s house this past weekend — she had her big tub removed and floor to ceiling cabinets installed. She still had room for a chair in front of them. Great storage and seating both.

You could have built in shelves/cabinets installed. If it were me, I would add a piece of antique furniture for storage (chest, cabinet, etc.). For us personally, we don't have a need for a chair. I have a spot for make-up in our bedroom - right in front of a window. But it depends on what you need.

I used to miss having a bench in the bathroom for so many reasons. It's not cliche. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Even better than the side of a tub or the toilet, more comfortable to sit on.

I'm not sure you are referring to when you say "I agree"? Do you like any of the ideas? I'm going to try to post an instagram picture of a bathroom. Julia did a cabinet and shelves and they used molding to make it look built in, although it is not. Perhaps you could post a picture of the bathroom so we can see where the window fits in.
