Anyone have experience or thoughts on the Kohler DTV?
Comments (18)I’ve had the DTV+ system for 4 years. I have 2 touch screens (1 outside and 1 inside the shower). I have a shower head, 3 body sprays, 1 hand sprayer, the overhead kohler rainfall with the color LEDs and the amplifier unit. Overall, the basic system itself works well. The touch screens are a bit sketchy at times, but you get used to them and learn their nuance. I also have the kohler konnect module. If I were to do it over, I would stay clear of the konnect module and the kohler music amplifier. The konnect rarely works and integration is very limited (ie no real connectivity to smarthings or IFTTT). The music amplifier was replaced multiple times and always gave a humming feedback when powered off. I ultimately disconnected the amp completely from the kohler unit and now run my speakers through a Sonos amp and use a brilliant switch touch screen to control the music separately. We rarely use the overhead rain panel but we do use the lights every day. The valves are reliable but be prepared to not be able to shower with a power outage. We have 3 other baths, so not a deal breaker. The other valve issue is that they can occasionally fail (mineral buildup likely) and require complete disassembly of the valve to replace the valve with what kohler calls a “repair kit”. The kits is about $100 and takes about an hour or so if you’re handy to do. I’ve had 2 fail so far in 4 years. We do have hard water so that may be the issue. Would I do it over again? Probably so, I’m a tech geek so I’m willing to deal with some of these issues. If you want a solid system that’s going to last a few decades like a regular faucet and valve and requires little to No maintenance or tech skills, don’t install this....See MoreUnder cabinet outlets - not on the wall.
Comments (28)Is Plugmold GFCI? well, you need to read the specs to find out. GFCI outlets have "test" and "reset" buttons, so if you don't see those anywhere on Plugmold, then that's the most obvious clue. (for example, this one has them.) also, there are different types of GFCI, and different qualities. agreed to having a licensed electrician do this. they will know the right items to install. that research shouldn't be up to the homeowner to research unless they want something really specific. even then, you could send a link to the electrician and ask them their opinion....See MoreAny hacks for lower cost under-cabinet outlets - recessed strip, etc?
Comments (6)I haven’t discussed in much detail with the builder yet. But, I think this is more of a design than safety issue. It wouldn’t be cutting corners from an electrical integrity standpoint. Code allows outlets in cabinets here. Apart from the obvious consideration of preserving the structural integrity of the cabinet, it isn’t really cutting corners as far as I can tell....See MoreUpdated: Under cabinet power strip with a junction box
Comments (5)Is that power strip used for anything other than lighting? If not, changing to LED is a good idea. If you need full power there for other things, then perhaps you can put a junction box in the cabinet above and wire the power strip from above. You'd have to remove the power strip to examine what connection options are available, then remount it....See Moredarbuka
