All the Haskasps were flowering around May 14 with Tundra perhaps a bit later. Aurora and Tundra seem to have the longest bloom time. The plants are still pretty small, about 18-24” tall. The new varieties Boreal Blizzart and Boreal Beauty seem to be amazing with much larger/sweeter fruit and flowering 2-4 weeks later! I just don’t have room! Fruit was ripening June 15-20 but still tasted pretty sour. I heard leaving them on the bush made a difference so I left them longer. Well the day later the birds discovered them and took about 50%. I netted them quickly but will be sure to do so earlier next year. On July 1st I harvested the rest except for some Aurora's which were still ripening. The ones labelled Honey Bee in my photos are actually Borealis. I also had Tundra and Aurora. Aurora is by far the largest. Tundra and Borealis were similar in size. Taste test with my wife: For fresh eating Aurora won hands down the best. Borealis perhaps had a slight edge over Tundra. Measuring Brix Aurora (17, 14), Tundra (9, 9.8, 11.8), Borealis (12, 12, 11.2) so you can see why Aurora was more pleasant. In the end we ate the Aurora's fresh and I made a compote with the other 2 by mixing 1 part berries to 0.5 part sugar by weight and it was nice and tasty and acidic. Yield post bird attack was tiny. Aurora 5 berries (8 grams), Tundra (41 grams), Borealis (32 grams). All are about 3 year old plants.

Aminopyralids...DESTROY ALL PLANT LIFE ESPECIALLY BROADLEAFS like Beans Peas broccoli family etc etc http://www.the-gardeners-calendar.co.uk/news/story.asp?nid=1448 i had trouble in washington state with the CERTIFIED ORGANIC COMPOST i was using...seems most commercial composters use municipal as well as public sources for their compost ingredients. all it takes is a few contaminated yard clippings that have been sprayed with ROUNDUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yep ROUNDUP that poison pushed by Costco even...thousands of gardens wiped out!-it takes up to 4 years for it to COOK out of your soil even after that you might experience problems-MAKE YOUR OWN COMPOST and boycott MONSANTO! ALL THEIR PRODUCTS! for they are poisoning the world. there are tests you can do -home control plots etc etc-but you need to start with pure virgin soil...good luck p.s. i am Michigan Now and they are having the same problems as WA state had 10 years ago...they are finally waking up though as people pass around this information.Namaste T

I too let them fall to the ground though no stem was attached to any of them. I wouldn't have done that last year because I had ants all over the tree, then I read an article about hot ants HATE lavender. I planted lavender under the tree and have no more ants. My first Anon was plucked out of the ground by me because ants had infested the tree and fruit. Anyway... It's difficult to tell when they're ripening. But I watched mine very closely over the months and noticed that the very end will soften slightly while the sections will get slightly yellow between them. Invariably they fall the day after I notice the softening. Next year I'll pollinate every bloom by hand.

Thanks, Cyrus!! They were ordered by "accident". Tomatofest had them advertised as Purple Prince. But, they are the healthiest, best producing of my plants so far so I'm happy. I've had issues with this new tomato garden area because we have flood irrigation and the poor little plants have stood in water for up to 48 hours, completely covered, about 5-6 times so far. I finally got the irrigation shut-off so I'm hoping some of the plants will recover. Starting some seeds this week for fall plant-out. Do I need to plant early varieties for fall planting or does it matter? I haven't seemed to be able to get an answer to this so far.
