Thanks, cyn, sciencechick, and lucky...well, *deep sigh* we (at least temporarily) turned it down, because it appeared that between the last time we saw it and today, the back had been significantly weakened and you could move it around : ( : ( I want that sofa so much I was almost willing to say let's just get it and have it repaired but it still wasn't at an amazing *enough* price to feel comfortable with it. I do wonder if maybe we should reconsider, given your story, lucky...the base, with the 'blue steel' parts (flash Zoolander face : )) is in fine condition, and we saw that the wood parts of the base are made with very fine-grained oak, solid...you just don't see that these days. It's only the movable back that gave us pause. So with that in mind, may I ask, how much does reupholstering cost, lucky, just a general ballpark figure or range? The labor, not the fabric...This sofa is 101" wide... And CYN, CYN -- did you preorder Dizzy Heights? : ) A couple of days ago I watched "Lights of New York", filmed by Liam...it's haunting. Neil does the interface between techno and acoustic so brilliantly. But of course. Hope you're doing well in general...

In the first photos For some reason, I hadn't immediately noticed that the pattern was going in different directions on the arms than the seat & backrest, but now I can notice it in the new photos taken head on. I also notice the pattern on the seat cushion looks like it was not centered and is off center. Looks like someone didn't know what they were doing, or were careless when they upholstered this. I also agree with others that a smaller pattern may be better on this particular chair. Overall when I look at the chair though, I still see a nice chair in nice colors which goes with the sofa well, but I do hope they will fix the issues for you.

Color palettes are heck. The main thing is that your major pieces blend/go together. For you, that looks like it is going to be furniture. Are you buying all new stuff or are there some things you are going to use from other areas of the house? I would nail down my functions for the room, and then set up furniture that's going to accomplish those goals first, see that it all plays nicely, and then find a rug to "tie the room together." Curtains and art and tchotckes can then be added once you have the bones in place. That's how I've always decorated my rooms - got the furniture in there, nailed down the placement, and then you can paint or accessorize.

The room needs to be pulled together and you want to keep the brown sofa. Some ideas to do that: --Keep the sofa since you like it. Go on Etsy and order a handmade throw in turquoise, brown, and tan to put over the sofa back. It'll look great. You don't need slipcovers. --Get a patterned rug with turquoise, brown, tan with some brown that harmonizes with tan and brown seating. Add pillows in accent blue. - -Paint the room a warm white. Add curtains in the same warm white. Paint your bookcases white. --Put a large mirror over the sofa on the left side to reflect light from the window. Relocate the little photos and bitsy framed pieces to a hallway, at eye level. I bet you no one even looks at those photos because they're not well places. --Get junk away from bookcases. Not sure of your measurements, but I would paint the bookcases white and move them side by side to the right of the fireplace. Then I would put TV on a cabinet to left of fireplace and add an art work over the fireplace. Put some birch logs in the fireplace so it's not just a black hole. ----Get great nesting coffee tables that are reachable/movable to all your seating. --Finish tidying up so nothing is in the room that doesn serve a function in there. In a small living room, a few big pieces, art, mirror, great rug will pull everything together. -
