Steve, I realize the hosta varieties I already have are on the small side. They're not ones I was planning on putting on that slope. They're in the backyard bed under some pin oaks, and they're all very new and VERY small. I only mentioned them because I probably won't be buying those same varieties for the slope. I can add divisions from them to that area someday, but it will be years before they're large enough for that. Your suggestions for larger hosta varieties are very helpful, especially since you mentioned the coloring for each one. What I'm really needing help with is some input on how much to put in that space. I obviously want to take away the bare look, but it's not a terribly convenient area to have dense growth. It's not even a safe slope to walk on unless you can clearly see where you're putting your feet (hence the staircase) and I'll still need to be able to climb out there and give everything a buzzcut at the beginning of every winter, if nothing else. I'd like there to be a nice balance between big hosta and smaller varieties as well as any companion plants, but I'm a little lost as to WHAT that balance is exactly.

Oh. Like magic. :o) For sanitary reasons, I’m not sure what you could put there. How about a couple of floating shelves on the wall up above? If you don’t need the storage/display space, I still think just an art print would do it. It is a bit of an awkward spot but its location right next to the toilet kind of gives it an ick factor. Sorry I’m not more help.

Well, I was going to suggest the ubiquitous fiddle leaf fern, but looks like you have a cat, and they are toxic to cats. You might Google plants that are non-toxic to cats and see if anything grabs your interest. I think some palms may be ok with cats (and they can grow fairly large), or you might look for a contemporary plant stand and just sit a smaller plant on it -- maybe a giant tropical bromeliad or something along those lines. That said, if your cat is prone to pester plants, it's probably not a good idea to include one in your décor. (Definitely don't put a fake plant in this pretty space.)

Your room is really lovely. Great color choices, especially the wall color with the fireplace stone. if it were me, I would look for a larger tv console. builtins could dettsct from all the beauty youve already created.
