Design Dilemma Lighting

Light fixture too large for this space?

Hi - first time poster here. I would love to get everyone’s thoughts on this. My question: is this light fixture too large for this space? It’s an 18” diameter fixture in a 3 foot wide hallway. We chose it not only because the style matches the decor and fits the look we are going for in the master bedroom, but also because it gives off a lot of light for what’s through the doors on the left side: my wife’s closet. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

IMO, it's a bit large for the space, but since it is a flush fixture, I would probably keep it since you like the amount of light it throws out.

Hi odyssey3, This indeed has many lights !!! but that doesn't mean it can't work in fact it may be quite exciting. On a dimmer and on at 1/3 the light cast would be very warm and well distributed. I think the reason this could work for you but not for many is because you have a high ceiling. 30x29 is large but it's all relative. If this is a good distance from the closest wall I think it would be very dramatic ! Lighting in general is one of the more interesting ways to personalize your home. Go for what you like !! jd

Fishies: I think you're on the right rack with the 7" bell. We have the 16" Rejuvenation globe that is your second choice in the OP, flushmount in a bedroom. It's perfect for that application -- large enough to have some visual weight, casts a nice overall glowing light. But as linelle mentions, I think a downward-focused light will be better over a peninsula, better task lighting. The globe would be good as flushmount or pendent general kitchen light or over a sink. Since the bells are bit smaller diameter, could you do three over the peninsula? FYI, I think you'll love the Rejuvenation schoolhouse series. You can tell the stripes are hand-painted (we have red and yellow ones). Plus, they're made in Portland instead of China! We've always had excellent in-store and online service from them. Good luck.

Yeah it certainly is cozy and comfy and really nice to put feet up and watch tv. I think I just really wanted to have the "right design" but my apartment layout (1800s Victorian) didn't match with my functional needs (a 6'4" room mate who enjoys high def movies and wants to be comfy). Design in a Victorian is hard they didn't have TVs or tall people back then haha.

Re: cleaning/dusting-I have a small electric leaf blower that I use for quick clean ups when I don’t want to mess with the gas blower. It‘s a glorified hair dryer, really, but has a more powerful motor. It would be perfect for your light. I’d turn on the vacuum and have someone hold it below the light to suck up loosened dust, while someone else runs the blower. I didn’t buy it from here, but this is the one I have. I think it looks just fine! There’s enough ceiling around it & it looks ”balanced” with equal amount of space from two different perspectives - length & width. If you had a smaller fixture throwing off less light than needed, you’d be looking up at ceiling to see what problem was that the hallway was so dim! What you have does the job & prevents a daily bad start to each day as your wife grumbles because she cannot see her clothing clearly - “…is this black or navy…” 😊

It looks a bit large, but should work fine since it gives off a good amount of light off for you.
