How well do tou like barbecued plastic?

We have Silestone Calacatta Gold quartz countertops and matching backsplash behind a slide in range and microwave is above the range. Four years of heavy use and no discoloration.

It just depends on how close the burner is to the backsplash behind the range.

I wouldn't use a cheaper quartz made in china (sometimes they're known to use more resin)

What kind of range / stove top do you have?

are the burners right up against the wall?

do you use the back burners? (I seldom use mine, so I'd be fine)

What brand quartz is that?? (It's Calacatta, not Calcutta. the later is an old city in India. The other is an actual marble in India) Based on this info, I'd steer clear of this manufacturer and look for something else. )

What about Calacatta Laza?

Do you notice this picture? It's used in your picture you posted. I don't know what company you're using, but if it's not the maker of Calacatta Laza, you're getting a knock-off and it won't look like this. Based on their incorrect spelling, i'm betting its a chinese knock-off quartz. Be careful.

The other thing you need to be aware of if using it up the back is the fabricator better know how to match these veins.

And most likely you'll need two slabs

You could choose a porcelain. this has no issue w/heat.

This is Calacatta Porcelain (looks so real in person) The slab cost two years ago was 2300.

or, you could do a mosaic tile material just behind the stove area, or a solid sheet of SS.

But honestly, if you go w/a reputable brand, and not put the back burner pot right against it, you should be fine.

We've been through this before. Verbo is posting pictures of an imroper installation, not product failure. The Thermador pictured requires 12" of space behind the range on a combustible wall, no matter the wall covering. Stop blaming engineered stone for designer mistakes with your pictures please.

Quartz can be used behind cooktops as long as proper clearances for your particular cooktop are met. Get out the installation instructions for your cooktop and read what clearances are required.

Just because one person has quartz behind their cooktop with no problems means nothing. It is all about proper installation of your particular appliance and meeting the proper clearances.

I live in a log cabin. Behind my Bluestar range is log walls. I have not had any problems because the range is properly installed meeting all clearance requirements and the back guard requirement.

Hi Beth, I was looking forward to your comment! So the manufacturer is lucent quartz and they are pretty well known here in Ontario, Canada. They have some “calacatta quartz but this one somehow is spelled “Calcutta” and I was wondering the same of why the spelling is different … that’s actually a good point.

I’ve been to few tile stores and they have the “lucent brand quartz “ although it’s not as expensive as “Cambria” quartz.

I don’t use my back burners. I will post a picture of my cooktop so you have an idea! We were also looking at porcelain tiles and I wasn’t sure if they were good with heat but now you mentioned it we might divert to porcelain tiles for backsplash.

I had my kitchen renovated a few years ago; and had Silestone quartz countertops installed with the same quartz installed for my range backsplash. My Silestone looks as good today as the day of installation. I use all my burners and oven often. The backspash behind the range never gets warm, as the range was installed properly as Joseph Corlett has mentioned many times not only in this discussion, but also in numerous other discussions. My experienced kitchen designer and experienced carpenter have installed many quarz range backsplahes using proper range installation. I love my quartz range backsplash!!

Jazzy, i would not do business w/a company who steals other companies pictures and parades it as their own. It's false advertising and probably some sort of copyright theft.

This Lucent quartz is obviously trying to sell you their product by using pictures of other companies. To me, that's just shady. why can't they use their own install pictures?
