I used indoor shutters in my DD's nursery. I also had indoor window boxes which were filled with stuffed animals instead of flowers.

My older cousin had a huge bedroom window with a double row of white shutters (1970s) … I envied them so much. They instilled in me a lifelong indoor shutter love. 😄

I love old chippy shutters, but I like the old outside ones (single). I have a pale green one I use in our house. I moved some stuff around recently, so it's currently looking for a new space haha!

Tina, I found so many neat ideas for making things with them. Some overly cutesy, but some creative and interesting.

I saw this wicker chaise yesterday, too, and am very tempted to get it for our bedroom.

I’d use a solid cream pad for the seat, and colorful pillows on the back.

I love the orange campaign chest, but one thing that gives me pause is the filling of the knob holes. It will take significant skill to fill those holes in a way that won't show up under a high gloss paint. Actually, in my experience, it takes significant skill to paint furniture with a high gloss paint period.

I came across a gorgeous mid-century (not really ’mod’, more traditional) house for sale … every room had the original indoor shutters in perfect condition. I was swooning. I know I saved the photos, probably a couple of iPads ago. It was a truly fabulous house.

If you buy an inexpensive pine cabinet from Ikea, make sure that it has wooden glides instead of the cheap plastic ones, as those do not hold up.

I have bought inexpensive chests/cabinets from an unfinished furniture shop in Culver City, and then we finished the furniture ourselves. The furniture we got there tended to be alder or oak, and it was easier to finish than pine, and it always had very good wooden glides, which do need to be waxed from time to time, but they do not wear out.

I tend to stay away from high gloss furniture (although we made a lot of it where I used to work), but if that is what you want, I think the best way to paint it would be with spray paint, in order to avoid brush strokes. It still takes a fair amount of skill. There are plenty of excellent furniture finishing shops here in L.A. where I could go to get a high gloss finish, if that is what I wanted, and I'm sure there are some where you live as well.

I like the shutter table, but I'm not a fan of the antique finish, although it is great if that is what you like. I also stay away from wicker furniture because the wicker can crack or break.

My dad gets unfinished furniture from a place in Fort Worth and stains it. I so agree with you about the gliding.

Funny, he got a desk recently and the owner remembered another desk my dad bought from him in the late ’70s! I still have the ladderback chair he used with it, in my bedroom … original rush seat, pad, and stain. :)

The more I think about trying to do a campaign table, the more I think I probably would mess up the finish! :D
