Comments (34)Which color shingles looks good with sable brown? First we decide sable brown with Gaf weathered wood shingles and white trim. Now we changed our mind and ordered dark bronze windows. I really like to get same color trims and gutter. But now I'm thinking if weathered wood will look too light....See MoreSiding Option for Roof Heavy House - help!
Comments (10)I'd do a vertical board and batten look on all of it, or a cedar shake look like the Nichia shakes on all of it. Or just keep the stucco look and emphasize the French Country details. No horizontal lines with that roof as they'll emphasize the width of the house and make the roof even more prominent. And I'd reframe that tall section to have the roof "wrap" around it as well. Then do the windows as dormers and add some dormers to the main facade. That takes away from the overbearing roof look and gives additional light to the interior as well. I'm not at all a fan of using something completely different on different sides of the house. It's a look that says "I couldn't afford to do nice stuff everywhere". Even just adding a few dormers will make that roof more charming....See MoreJuly 2018 - How's your house build going?
Comments (260)Thanks all! lindavana - we got the light from Metro Lighting, its a Capital Lighting Chandelier, 4912BI, you can get in 8 or 12 lights. drbevdc - thanks!, my boyfriend is a big beer geek and this was his special request, we love how it turned out. Everyone raves about our open shelves, found them on Etsy and we love the navy cabinets. ILoveRed - curtains are our only window treatments on the main floor and since we are city living we were not sure how much everyone can see into our house, so they had to go up right away. I had purchased the curtains in advance so they were ready to go. We had the brackets hung by the construction team before we closed, so it was "easy" for me to jump up and hang them...i dont do heights very well and was a little scared since the ceilings are 11' tall, but I got them up! Rugs were all from our old house and the right size so easy to just lay down, whew....See Moreideas wanted! modernize mid century exterior
Comments (19)Agree — I would go in a more earthy direction, not too contrasting and stark. I think you’re very wise not to paint the brick. I’m just horrified as I drive through my town and see wonderful old homes with the Paint Color du Jour glopped onto the formerly nice brick, with no rhyme or reason ... just for the sake of being trendy. I like the darker roofline here, with a true golden tan (no pinkish cast), and front door in a different color. Minor changes that would make a big impact. Very inviting and more natural in keeping with the style of your house: Similar here:...See More
