Help!!! Wrong Interior Doors Won't Fit Into Pockets

Comments (12)The wall into which a pocket door slides does not need to be wider than any other wall. I checked my doors. The wall thickness, or width, is the same on pocket doors and typical doors. The thickness of the doors is identical. The framing of the wall is different to account for the pocket, but that's it. They are typical width solid wood doors--nothing special. I don't know if my doors were pre-framed or slab doors. It was too long ago, and I doubt I was onsite when that part of the build occurred....See MorePocket door frame advice
Comments (11)Thank you. This information just led to a ton of information gathering and I feel like I'm on the verge of seriously overanalyzing this. Johnson frames come in several series but they make a frame with "soft close" hardware which is only available on their entry level 1500 series frames. The higher level frames are able to handle heavier doors and such but don't have a soft close option. If I'm using basic solid core doors that aren't going to push the weight limit, am I losing anything by using the 1500 series? This is the Johnson door. Before now I didn't know there were soft close pocket doors. In this case, the Johnson door is both soft open and soft close. Neat! My searching didn't lead me to any other frames that come with soft close hardware but I did find other companies that manufacture just the hardware, which you have to install on the door/frame. I'm afraid this is one of those things that could be a major project with little noticeable benefit. Should I just get the Johnson soft close frame and be done with it or is there much to gain by obsessing over the decision?...See MoreHelp! Pocket Door or Accordion Door for 16' opening
Comments (7)I totally get the OPs question... I think... lol I think what they are asking is when the pocket sliders are closed, does the pocket get full of debris... bugs, leaves, kids toys, cats, dead bodies, etc... I had the same wonderings. You never see a pic of the pocket while the doors are closed. I finally saw one in person. The pocket is on the inside. Essentially, the panel closest to the pocket has a piece on the pocket side, perpendicular to the pane that fills the “pocket hole” when they are closed. Thus no hole for stuff to get in there. Hopefully that is what the OP was looking for... lol if not, disregard this post! Ha!...See MoreMark Bischak, Architect
