I second the green. I just painted a powder room with an oak vanity similar to the shade of your kitchen cabs. The color was SW Austere Gray and it's gorgeous with the oak. Don't be turned off by the name of the color. It's more green than gray, but it's such a lovely shade of green - not too yellow, not too blue - very soft and sophisticated. I used the SW Duration matte and the surface looks like velvet when dry. It's a very durable paint for heavy use places like kitchens. I probably wouldn't have stumbled onto the Austere Gray except for the fact that I was looking for a green that wasn't too yellow and wasn't too blue. I mixed some remnants of Grassland (more yellow) and Comfort Gray (more blue) together and I loved the resulting color. It was a perfect match to the Austere Gray. Looks like a beautiful home.

These are the chips of SW latte, whole wheat and bagel. Above them is Gliden vintage yellow and above that is Olympic toffee crunch. We are not using the yellow now (because of the oak.) This is BM Baby Turtle in my dining room, it is on the left around the soothing green tea. This is the baby turtle in the kitchen. I liked it on the left, but under the cabinet I do not. Cyn, the Buttered Toffee looks like a nice light neutral, like the upper ones in the three chip strips (latte, whole wheat and bagel.) I am thinking about a color like that for my hallways and possible family room. I like the green, (I will check it out for my bedroom!), but I'm not sure about it with the green I have in the fabric. FunC, I like the rattan as a deep neutral, but not enough, so I think I will keep looking at greener colors. Tracee, Thanks, I am turning my thoughts back to a green for those rooms, and that crown point sand looks like a good neutral too. At first I was using the Ben Moore Personal Color Viewer, then I posted on the ben moore forum, and that is how I got the Firenze, rattan and safari. I got the chips for those, and some testers, but I just didn't think they looked right. I started Googleing the colors, that is how I found GardenWeb! Every time I googled a color, it sent me here, that is why I posted, because I was so impressed with the posts I had seen! Is the way I did this fine? Should I break down and have a different question for each of the major rooms? Thanks to all who are helping! Sorry I need so much help, but all this has gotten me thrown for a loop, and now my house looks worse with all this wrong paint on the walls! Ohh, what do you think of the baby turtle? Thanks again!

Ooooh, pretty colors! I may need to head back to SW. Got a call tonight, the couch is arriving with the chair a week from tomorrow. I'm going to continue to investigate all suggested colors and get more chips. Then hopefully once the furniture is here it will be easier to pick! I need to focus on getting a closet system in the living room closet so I can clear some floor space this weekend for the furniture, but I will try to post a few of the suggestions with the suggested color swatches after I get some chips to look at. ladyshadowwalker - your light came out great! It looks like a factory finish. The Possini light I like does come in either chrome (which would match the chandelier ceiling canopy) or brushed nickel (which would look pretty close to the brushed stainless handles and appliances.) I also wonder if I would better off just trying to find a light with almost no metal at all - I will post some in another posting. mydreamhome, I hear what you are saying - thanks for the link to the bathroom forum discussion and for the compliment on the tile and chandelier. I liked Mongoct's bath photo - I can see how the ORB he used up top also reflects the floor color. I am a bit sensitive to different finishes, though, and the brushed nickel pulls with the polished nickel faucet would bother me (it doesn't look bad at all in that bathroom, I just would personally not get used to it so quickly.) But I definitely think that especially as most people will not be thinking about this when they see the kitchen, they'll be just taking it in as a whole, that I am probably the only person who gives a darn. :-) Going to post some options in a minute!
