white vinyl or natural wood veneer interiors on white cabinets?
Comments (3)Neither. Vinyl is a cheap crappy way to finish a cabinet interior. Wood can be problematic with water resistance and roughness. The ideal material for a cabinet interior is high pressure melamine, whether white to match the exterior, or a natural maple as is done on most cabinetry. It's super easy to maintain with just a wipe. It's water resistant, and it's durable. And it's not a high cost either....See MoreMedia report "Latest in kitchens: Black is the new white"
Comments (21)@CEFreeman: shoulder pads and leg warmers resurfaced briefly The mostly black kitchens shown by high end designers remind me of certain trends in fashion -- fashionistas keep trying to bring them back, only for the mass public to soundly reject them. Black and dark colors for part of the kitchen can be beautiful. I consider the GW kitchen linked above a "partly black" kitchen -- no different than the espresso woods that are going into many kitchens today. (I disliked the HB kitchen). But noir can also be terrible to live with, especially on horizontal surfaces -- we inherited glossy black granite (AB) counters and they are the worst thing in a second home -- same thing with the range. Every dropped speck, water spot or piece of dust shows instantly and terribly! Comments (8)I avoid open shelves in cabinets because of dust. Pain in the derriere to dust around electronics components. Also, closed doors create a sleaker, more clean look in a room. I also suggested the white table over the black because, again, dust will show up badly on the black....See MoreNeed help finding a rustic wooden media console for TV Alcove
Comments (27)groveraxle, I was more concerned personally about actual size of the sideboard in terms of how large it is on its own, and then we are moving it up into an alcove... Maybe I'm making myself paranoid about this, but the piece is 54"W x 17¾"D x 29½"H. Good point about the distance between the screen and console. We can always move the TV screen up as it's on an arm. Here is a pic of the 4 panel sideboard. This one is much wider than the 3 panel we photoshopped in, however the height is the same - 29 1/2"....See MoreJamie Lee
