Grey tile floor for vintage look bathroom?
Comments (9)Have you looked at images on Houzz.com? There are so many pictures. You can search for gray floors. Hanging sinks. What ever. What about a nice hybrid of vintage and modern? Not to tire people of my bathroom remodel but I have a picture of my almost finished slate tile floor. Be aware that there are floor stiffness requirements for tile and even stiffer requirements for stone. If You don't have access to improve your joist and subfloor to meet the demands of ceramic or stone, there are some lovely floor coverings that look like stone. My "in progress" slate floor. This is 6x12 Brazilian slate that I cut down from 12x12 tiles (the white tile boards are my wall sample boards, testing grout colors): I've attached a link to a recent bathroom remodel by Barbcollins. She used a vinyl product for her floor and there is a picture of it on the post. I think it is very nice looking. Comments (42)A vote for NO beadboard. Originally, bb was an early 1900s kind of thing - there's nothing remotely midcentury about it. Now its totally overused and usually in the form of DIY paneling from the big box store. Not that I think we have to be historical purists - just have all the design components relate well and complement each other. In my mind the country-ish flavor of bb doesn't relate well to the more suburban sophisticated style of your tile floor and of the typical 60s ranch house. Unless you've already reworked the rest of the house to be more traditionally styled and beadboard friendly - in that case just pls disregard! Agree that the sprayed on epoxy finish (in any color) can be a good affordable alternative to ripping out the tile and re-installing some other kind of wall. The tub will probably peel so maybe you could just replace that - the money and effort you save not ripping out the tile wall (believe me that is a beast of a job) can go to the cost of replacing the tub....See MoreCheckerboard floor for a vintage kitchen?
Comments (49)mary_lu, thank you for remembering me :). I still haven't made a decision, although I found an ad for a Restore a few hours' drive from here, that has many different colors of VCT for a bargain price. I'm planning a trip soon, if only to see the colors in person. In the meantime I'm doing small tasks, here and there, on the guest room (above the new addition) and the dining room. Today, one of my daughters is helping me move a pie safe (or two) from the DR to my bedroom. When I get some pics of those areas, I'll start another thread. Thanks, everyone, for all the advice and good thoughts!...See MoreWhat color to paint vintage kitchen walls?
