Artwork to fit the space.
We custom build our home about 7 years ago and have slowly adding things to it in terms of new furniture, decor, etc.
My grandparents were big fans or artwork and I have a couple of their pieces in my house and my husband and I want to add to our collection. This is the first wall you see when you walk into our house so it will be what you see when you walk in. I have attached pics for reference.
I want a piece that properly fits our space and the wall. I love the artist Christopher Owen Nelson. He carves into acrylic and paints into the carvings. It is GORGEOUS in person. So I will include some of his pieces for reference.
I would like to get a larger piece to go in between the windows. The space inbetween is about 37 inches. Our ceilings are 10 feet. Our sectional sits 39 inches off the ground. The windows are 5 foot. I don't know what size is appropriate though.
Eventually I would like to do curtains at some point, but it's kinda low on my priority list.

Comments (50)Yes, we are thrilled with how it turned out. The white door isn't quite so bright in real life, I think the flash made it pop a bit more than it really does. We replace the big fat hinges on the door on the right (the heat/air unit) with piano hinges for a more low-profile look and painted them, and two vent covers the same silver-gray as our Aspire wall plates. We flipped the pantry door (door on left which used to be a clothes closet) so that it now opens on the kitchen side and used matching pulls for both doors instead of door knobs. Much nicer look. Comments (21)I don't have a functioning camera right now to make an electronic photo file, but will remark that it is easiest inside a nice cabinet to use combinations of pex tubing and push to connect fittings such as Sharkbite brand (among many others) to avoid sweat soldering damage. All that is needed is a means to cut the pex to a clean flat end. Mistakes are easily remedied by using a different size piece of pex. Adapters exist to go from the pex to the fitting that dangling faucet hoses use. 3/8 poly line along with John Guest type push to connect fittings will be good for RO lines or such. Pex and poly are at their limit when used for pressurized water at boiling temperatures, so the hot water source in the house needs to be under some form of temperature control. A boiler type of water heater with potential for overshoot to 220 or so would be a risk in my view without a working moderator (required anyway by code). Some water chemistries tend to degrade the modulator so that needs to be kept in mind. My primary sink cabinet base includes garbage disposal and DWV plumbing, stand pipe for dishwasher hose, hot/cold feed for main faucet and to moderating valve for dishwasher (gets mix of hot and cold). Also there is the touch faucet control box, the fiber-optic garbage disposal control box, and quad electrical outlet. RO connection to both hot and cold sides of a pull-down faucet are present. 2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoYes, curtains first and then fill the available space with properly scaled art. If you'd rather have inside mount shades, blinds or romans, you'll have more room for art. Bear in mind that you need at least 25% of the art's width as wall space on each side. On your 37" wall that would allow for a piece that is 18.5" wide. Not really a large piece of art. For a big piece you need to hang it above the mantel. Have you considered an easel mounted TV?

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoYour windows are placed so low and close together that any art you put between them will be lost. Mount one drapery rod halfway between the top of the window frame and the ceiling, encompassing both windows, with simple linen type drapery panels - two in the middle and one on each end. It will really soften and fill the space. You can find other walls for your art.

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoMount curtains this way and then see what spots are available for art. That piece you posted looks to be about 18" when framed, so you may find a spot for it once the curtains are up.

2 years agoThis might be temporary, but we just wanted to get it displayed! We just love it and want to get to see it.
I’m a little intimidated with curtain rods. I had quite the adventure installing them in our master bedroom.
I’m open for tips and places to buy hardware and curtains when we get to that point.
