What am I doing wrong with my down comforter?
Comments (19)Regarding the Overstock image, it's also the angle they used to take the picture that makes it look big and puffy. OPs pic is looking down onto the bed, which flattens everything. The inspiration Nordstroms pic is looking up toward the bed (and there is a LOT piled in those layers). A good way to achieve a fluffy, overstuffed look is to stuff it into a duvet. We all have down comforters, and my kids have identical comforters on identical beds. They have different duvets though, one is pre-made and one I made. The one I made is a bit small for the comforter, which is nice because it doesn't shift around. That one always looks fluffy and cozy. The other tends to flatten out and shift to one end. I'm planning to take the pre-made one apart, size it down, and use some other fabric to make it into two matching duvets that are sized a bit small for the comforters (since my kids don't fluff or re-shape their comforters)....See MoreNow I Have to Wash a Down Comforter.
Comments (32)Today we did it. Went to Walmart to get Revive X and go to the laundromat. What a hassle. Three clerks couldn't find it after we tried 4 times. Then went to the service desk; no help. They called and assistant manager and he took me to sporting goods because it is for down jackets; no luck; he went to sports desk and the clerk didn't have a clue. Went back to groceries and bought the smallest Purex free and clear for babies (dermatologist approved). Trip to the laundromat and spent $6.54 for a 6 load washer and washed on wool cycle--cold water and short spin. Added the smallest line on the measuring cap after the prewash cycle and in27 minutes it was done. Dried for about 28 minutes and my wife thinks it's dry--lets go home. Then it felt damp in places and it's laying on the spare bed finishing up. This took almost an hour and a half. Anyhow this saga is over and the down did not get harmed in the process....See MoreDo you like the weight of a down comforter?
Comments (22)ker-choo! That was a sneeze for a down allergy. I have a duvet, which I fold over to the other side of my king bed so that the underside is on top. It's converted into my poodle's luxury, pouf bed! LOL I sleep under a coverlet, lightweight blanket and a top sheet. When in Paris, my rental apartment has only a comforter. No top sheet or blanket, so I sleep under it and I'm never there in winter. My landlord furnishes the rental this way, as do all other apartments I've been in over there. He uses a down alternative for people like me. It takes getting used to during the warm months. If I were there in cold weather, I'd be happy with it....See Morelooking for a down comfortable sectional for my family room. Ideas?
Comments (3)Could I talk you into a sofa and 2 chairs IMO so much more comfortable seating when you have at least one armrest. As for down I never like just down for seating so a nice down wrapped foam is nice and down back cushions are nice but require fluffing often and at least a couple of times a year into the dryer with tennis ball to really fluff them up. As for where to get this I have no idea where you are , your budget or anything else. I will say no to buying anything ,where comfort is important , on line....See Morebbstx
